These guys are my current favorite. Certainly not my all time favorite, but I can't get enough of them right now. They're putting Shelbyville, Kentucky on the map. ;)

Saw 'em last weekend and am going to see them tonight.

Any other MMJ fans out there?

Big fan here...I couldn't make their NYC shows here a few weeks ago, but heard they were not as stellar as earlier shows here touring behind this record.

Hope you'll report on the show here.

Fantastic show, despite the festival crowd, which of course means there were a lot of people there that wouldn't be otherwise. People cheered and were respectful and I think they won quite a few converts, but it wasn't as energetic as the Bonnaroo crowd last week, which totally knew their stuff. Thankfully, we were really close (about 15 rows if you can calculate what "row" in a mass of thousands and thousands of people.) Drums were way too loud and not enough bass, but minor quibbles given the fact that festival soundchecks usually last all of about 19 seconds. I used to run sound for some bands and get pretty nerdy about that stuff. :o

They didn't tap into material off of the new album until about the third or fourth song. They opened with a song I don't think is on any of their albums, followed with a few songs off of At Dawn (one was "Lowdown" can't remember the name of the other one) and maybe one off of The Tennessee Fire. After that, they plowed through as much of It Still Moves as they could in their brief 70 minute set. They played "Mahgeeta", "Dancefloors", "One Big Holiday", and closed with "Steam Engine" and "Run Thru" which was phenomenal.

Unfortunately, I still haven't seen them in one of their own shows. Last time they headlined a show in Birmingham it sold out quickly and I couldn't get tickets and it was such a hot ticket I couldn't even work my connections.

By the way, if you haven't picked up the new acoustic EP, I would recommend doing so:

Mahgeetah is so good I don't even care that it's been co-opted for a (blech) Aspen Edge ad.

let me flaunt my ignorance...what is Aspen Edge?

Thank goodness I don't really watch much TV or listen the radio. I can keep the song "pure." :D

However, that song may help them immensely being put into a commercial...if not helping to sell more records, it may have at least landed them a crapload of cash. :D

I hadn't really heard much of them until I saw them at Bonnaroo. I was right on the rail and I could just tell I was watching something special. If I ever get any cash together I am definitley going to buy some of their albums.

Are they really saying they're from Shelbyville, now?

It's really ironic how they're playing up this psuedo-pastoral image- These guys were all playing dress-up art ****** with the rest us in the 90's, back when they were called Month of Sundays, and playing crap-ass smashing pumpkins meets teenage amatuer scream-o stuff.

They're all-right now, not much my cup of tea, but at least they know what they're doing . . .

No, they say they're from Louisville...and said so several times during the concert. I threw the Shelbyville thing in myself.

I might add though how I find it amusing that people often have very little appreciation for what's from their town/place.

It took the Blind Boys of Alabama getting huge in Europe to make a big splash here.

Oh, they're plenty big here, and have been for quite a while . . and if you're talking about me, I have plenty of appreciation for good bands from this town- I just don't happen to be into MMJ.

And if you're thinking they're not big here because of another one of Jim's chip-on-his-shoulder diatribes about Louisville's snobby indie rock scene, well . . . .

No, I wasn't commenting about what you said in particular, it just reminded me of an oft-seen phenomenon.

The older I've gotten (listen to me...I'm not even 30 and I'm uttering that phrase :D) I've discovered that I'm not really into interviews and stuff with 'celebrities' anymore. I try and focus on what they're doing, whether its playing sport or music. I don't really care abou their opinions on stuff for the most part.

The reason for the descrepancy in performances can be found somewhere on this page.

Um, I thought that site would be more informative- It's Danny Cash's post-MMJ enterprise. They sell trendy knick-knack. Incidentally, he is now in a pretty decent little band called the Debutantes - http://www.candythathurts.com/

Not sure where the other member (guitarist) who quit went,

How weird that I see this thread today...I was just listening to Z in the car today. Bought it the week it came out, and I still play it every few weeks. Great, great album.

Interesting you should post this today. I went to check out the remaining stock at Tower Records today and picked up my first My Morning Jacket disk. Having been stuck in a mega traffic jam on the way home, I got through almost the whole thing and was impressed. I first heard of them through this board, but had never purchased anything by them.

Twighlight Zone!!

In all seriouness, their concert on last Wednesday was great. Sorry I don't have any pictures but they did have like 23 santas hanging out and handing out candy. It was a great show. I am verry happy to say that with all the changes the band still going on strong.
Wax Fang opened up for them ( another Louisville band) if you like MMJ check out Wax Fang they sure enough rock!!#@!
