We saw Baumjohan's play in the first few weeks and we all saw his ability. Not that he is any different from Pranjic. Listing those players were just examples of the duds we have always acquired in the last few years and Pranjic would be one of the duds too.

OK. Now let me ask you something.

Why is it OK for some guys here to consider Breno a 12M "developmental project" and Baumjohann isn't seen as one who was signed on a free transfer???

What the f#ck, did you think you were signing Diego??

Please let him go! He'll be better off with Bayern in his rear-view mirror.

And mark my words, he'll be back to haunt you.

It'll take a few seasons, but he'll be there.

Some of us here realize his value. I will vote "NO" to letting him go. He is an expample of the squad players that Bayern need to nurture instead of disregard from now on...as long he does not pull an attitude that he should be starting...

I wouldn't mind Baumjohaan vs Leverkusen as a LM to be honest, we have no one else.

The fact that LvG prefers to include the horribly out of form (and that's almost an understatement) Altintop in the matchday squad although we are in dire need of creativity tells me all I need to know about Baumjohann. This doesn't mean that he's crap or that he can't become a decent Bundesliga player in a couple of years.

Shouldn't Olic be back soon?

Might as well at this point. I don't know why LvG isn't giving him the chance while everyone else has gotten minutes so far, many with more than they deserve.

Hendrik makes a point about Baum though....

If Olic is back, I'd prefer him to play LM and keep Muller as SS, he can link Olic and Robben with Gomez and hopefully Schwein distributes the ball. It would be perfect if Tymo started over Van Bommel, but I don't have much hope in this constant stupidity Van Reetard keeps going for..

With Ribery out for the foreseable future, I don't know why it would be unfeasible to try something like this:

----------------Butt---------------
Altintop---Buyten---Badstuber---Lahm
-------------Tymoschuk--------------
---------Bommel-----Schweini--------
--------------Baumjohann------------
------------Toni----Mueller----------

Mueller would play as a roaming SS, and Baumjohann's role would be to link the CMs and forward line in a completley free role. We could then switch to the 4-3-3 in the second half with Robben and Mueller as wingers (Baumjohann to sub out) to facilitate counter attacks.

In midfield Tymo can focus on sweeping in front of the back four while Schweini and MvB drive the ball forward with early balls into space for Mueller to chase, or combinations through the middle with Baumjohann. For this to work Baumjohann needs to be given the freedom to roam all over the pitch.

As poor as Altintop has been this season, our attack was much more balanced with Lahm on the left side of defense. Altintop was one of the few players actually trying push up the wings and make something happen on Saturday. He needs match practice to get into a rythm with the rest of our players.

Olic has not even resumed squad training yet. From FCBs website...

On the sidelines, Ivica Olic worked away at his comeback from injury, supervised by sports rehab specialist Darcy Norman. The Croatia international is hopeful of resuming the team schedule soon, perhaps as early as next week.

I agree with this completely NB!
I think Mueller is needed up top as the 'rabbit' with either Gomez/Toni as the target. (I think Mueller works better with Gomez personally)

I think there are some nice substitutions patterns that develop with this as well... for instance... if AM isn't working for Baumy, then bring on Klose up top and move Mueller there.
But why not give BaumyJ the chance? It isn't like he wasn't playing there prior to Ribery's return on occasion in midfield at the beginning of the year, right?

The other substitution would be Gomez for Toni at some point, or push Mueller wide, insert Robben for BaumyJ, and sub out Toni for Klose and run with 3 forwards the last half-hour.

Easily the understatement of the century of that club !

As with Eiss, this would be my suggestion also, specifically switching Tymo and MvB into the proper roles and the insertion of Baumjohann and giving him a chance. The only other change I would make is to replace Mueller with Robben and push that role right behind the striker (Toni) and wide.

My only issue would be given the frequency of roaming around the pitch by Schweinsteiger and MvB, coupled with the runs of Lahm up the field, we might be a bit exposed by teams that effectively attack down the flanks.

Just an interview with Uli after the Philip Lahm situation. Copy the link and take it to Google Translate and you'll get the gist of the story...

I think it tells us that Van Gaal made up his mind about the players a long time ago, and he is too stubborn to change it.

there were quite a few interesting replies in the interview ....

" it was agreed that we would continue playing 442 with robben. it would be crazy not to take into consideration that we have 4 forwards and 3 of them have a problem if we play 433"

Q: you've got two very similar players in toni and gomez...

uli: we weren't happy with luca last year. gomez wanted to leave stuttgart this summer, this was our only chance of getting him.

Q: you've announced that you wanted to have a smaller squad?

Ulli: the only way we'll reduce our squad is if a player comes to us and says "i'm not happy here, i want to leave". we won't tell luca toni " damn it, we want get you of our payroll, look for another club". we won't tell anyone that they won't get a squad number, that they won't be able to train and make them feel as a pariah. that's not the style of fc bayern. it causes us some problems because we have too many players now, but a club like bayern should be able to take that.

Another Uli's interview. Can someone translate the most interesting parts?

Hoeneß: 400 Millionen Euro Schulden: super Philosophie! :D

Aber in den Internetforen, da gibt es Leute, die anonym bleiben und ihren Frust loswerden können – und die vermeintlich die öffentliche Meinung beeinflussen.

Uli: "90% of what Lahm said is wrong and I tell you who's behind it: Roman Grill, his agent who used to work here. He wants to position his client - as captain and leader. This morning I called Grill and asked him why he claimed that Lahm expressed his opinion to the board two, three times. He replied, "how else is he supposed to get himself noticed?" Isn't this shameful? I said now I understand, have a nice day!

Did you notice that Piotr Trochowski has been giving interviews lately about how they need to add more depth and so on. He can usually not even string two sentences together and now he talks about football policy! Do you know who his agent is? Roman Grill! And our goalkeeper Michael Rensing gives interviews every week since Grill became his agent - and talks nonsense. He will not get another chance in goal after those interviews.

Barcelona: €400M debt - good football philosophy!

Arsenal? Can you tell me when they won their last European title? As far as I know Arsene Wenger has never won a European title. Great example!

ManU? €700M debt and the manager wouldn't have gotten as much time today."

q: Lahm said the team is forced to play 4-3-3 after buying Robben.

"That's rubbish, you can play 4-4-2 with Robben.

When you are able to decide about the transfer of Arjen Robben for 20 million right from your desk without visiting your bank's loan department first, then that's a main part of my philosophy.

I think the majority of our fans still share my views. But in Internet forums there are people who remain anonymous and can get rid of their frustration. Those influence public opinion. I don't think they will succeed."

Uli always with the last word...

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=697555&sec=europe&cc=5901

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has responded to claims made by Philipp Lahm in an interview last weekend, saying the defender is "almost wrong with every point''.

Philipp Lahm surprised many with his criticism of the club. Lahm criticised his club for not having a clear concept for the future and for making some errant signings. He was handed a "record fine'' while he immediately apologised for going public with his views.

But Hoeness, in typical style, ensured he had the last word in the matter, telling Zeit newspaper: "Lahm is almost wrong with every point. It's a joke. What do you think would happen if a renowned coach came to you and you tell him that he has to play our system with the players?

"Franz Beckenbauer is the only person to have given the right answer: The system is not decisive because a good football team must be able to play various systems. It is the coach who decides the philosophy.''

Hoeness criticised Lahm's agent Roman Grill for putting his client up for the interview and creating the controversy. "I called Grill this morning and asked him why he said in public that Philipp Lahm had been to the board two or three times,'' explained Hoeness. "He knows full well that that is not the case. And he answered me 'how else should he make a name for himself?' That was his answer. Isn't that shameful?''

Lahm was made Bayern's vice-captain last year, when he also extended his contract amidst reported interest from Barcelona. And Hoeness insists Grill wants to either make him into the club's captain or create the foundations for a transfer. "He wants to position his client, as captain, as a leading player,'' he added.
