Did I get this right for the different scenarios for teams to advance to the quarterfinals?

============

If Greece beats Russia, they're through to the quarterfinals
If Greece ties Russia, they're through to the quarterfinals if Spain beats Portugal or Portugal beats Spain or if Spain and Portugal tie
If Greece loses to Russia, they can advance if Portugal loses to Spain or by a tie-break if Spain loses to Portugal

If Portugal beats Spain, they will advance to the quarterfinals

If Spain beats Portugal, they will advance
If Spain ties Portugal, they will advance
If Spain loses to Portugal, they can advance if Russia beats Greece and they win the tie-breaker criteria

Russia can not advance

We won't have to worry about any of this cause I will tell you right now who will advance:
Greece
Portugal

You'll see Sunday.. :)

russia is out for sure.. greece will probably win the group. so if portugal wins they will come second, if spain wins, then they come second.. we just have to hope for the best.... if scolari lets ronaldo play from the beginning, then I'm sure portugal will make it..

Isn't it great to see a team like Greece doing well?

One correction, if Greece win OR tie they will go through.

If Spain win 2-1 and Greece win 1-0 then who wins the group?

They'd go by qualifiying record. No idea who would win there.

How would qualifying records come into play? Portugal did not qualify. They made the finals due to being the host country. Greece and Spain, ironically, were in the same Group 6--then drawn into the same finals group. For the record, Greece won the group on 18 points (6-0-2) and Spain went through to the finals on 17 points in the group (5-2-1) w-d-l.
Usually it goes points, goal diff., goals scored, and head-to-head. A fifth tiebreaker might be a coin flip--unfair as that may seem. Usually it doesn't go that deep. Let's hope not.

Actually it's not a coin flip, but the points awarded by UEFA to its team. So given the goal differential and the best attack, in case Greece loses to Russia and Portugal wins, Spain would advance because it has a better track record.

Spain would because they qualified to WC 2002 AND Euro 2004, so they have the better qualifying record altogether. It never comes down to a coin flip. I think even fair play comes before a coin flip in tie breakers.

The only way both Spain AND Portugal can qualify is if Portugal beat Spain and Russia beats Greece by a bigger margin or same margin with Greece scoring less goals than Spain. e.g., POR 2-1 ESP, RUS 1-0 GRE or POR 3-1 ESP, RUS 2-0 GRE.

But Greece won't let it slip. They'll hold on to a 0-0 with 11 behind the ball if they have to.

According to the official site (http://www.euro2004.com/tournament/standings/index.html), the tie breakers are as follows:

Winner of head-to-head matchup
Goal difference
Goals scored
Qualifying record for World Cup 2002 and Euro 2004
FIFA Fair Play Ranking
Penalty kicks or drawing of lots

And as you say, Spain vs Greece would, at most, come down to (4).

There will be a lot of weird calculations tomorrow afternoon if both spain and greece lose. I think the original poster missed a scenario, here is what i think is complete for the greece lose to russia scenario

If Greece loses to Russia, they can still advance if
-Portugal ties Spain since they beat portugal
-Spain beat Portugal
-Portugal beat Spain by a bigger margin then greece's loss
-Or the 5 things skip mentioned....

I'm taking my chances.. I've been behind Portugal every since I knew what a soccer ball was. I'm so happy and excited to see how Portugal is going to play and then I'm gonna be the first one to come back here and POST that 1) Portugal WON 2) Portugal tried there best and they played a good game.
You'll see.

Thats pretty optomistic considering Portugal hasn't beat Spain in 23 years.

Thanks! Ya, I wasn't very ambitious about devling into all those tie-breaking scenarios. As you see, they can darn tricky.

Well, only a couple more hours until the games start.
