I just got done reading Nick Webster's column on FoxSportsworld.com and I completely disagree with him. While Beckham has not been at his best thus far in the tournament, benching or putting him in the fondue as Webster says is not the way to go. Beckham is a solid player and he is one of the keys to England's success. Who would replace him? I just don't think Webster's arguments are needed. England are 1-0-1 thus far and they are in the driver's seat to make it to the Quarterfinals against Greece more than likely. Let's take the heat off Beckham and see how the tournament ends up. Benching your captain in the middle of the Euro's is not a smart move and it is a move Mr. Eriksson will surely not make. Thoughts?

Interesting that he wants to bench Beckham, but goes on to mention that he was involved in the direct build up to two goals. Let's face it, Becks gets mentioned because people will read the column if his name is in the title.
Few consider DB a great player, but his ability with his right foot and his workrate alone make him an asset. I have an idea, let's have him take out American citizenship - our national side need a R-mid with any kind of skills in the worst way. Of course, finding someone on the other end of his crosses that can handle them is another matter...;^)

i think websters an absolute tosser, the most annoying guy on the fsw network, he's argument for dropping becks was horrid, on that topic how bout mickey owen. when you look at the team now after the past two games, owen is the first person you think about dropping because he has been below par more than any other player in those two games.

Agree about Owen--thus far he has made one rather easy cross to Rooney but otherwise nothing. Too slow, too small, no killer instinct---I'd play DV over him.
Luckily for England Rooney is putting in a work rate for two strikers

They (FSWD) brought this embarrassing twat in for WC 2002 .
Bald up front silly ponytail out back and crap between the ears.
He really is annoying and embarrassing.
Because he's seen on TV (shudder) people think he's a typical Brit.
At least he balances up Bretos....Nah, not really but he's almost as bad.

I think you hate Nick Webster because he is a HUGE Gunners fan. I emailed him a few times and he told me.
Why not give Owens a go at taking PK for awhile? But for the love of all things holy, DO NOT BENCH BECKS!!!!!

I think you'll find Becky has just as much say in team selection as SGE, so it's unlikely he'll drop himself??? :D
Barring injuries the team is picked, Vassell will remain a supersub, which is how he operates best.

hilarious stuff USSCOUSE.
On the topic of Owen and pks, i dunno, USScouse i thought little Mikey was a bit on the bad side when it came to PKs, not really reliable \, i dunno am i wrong, but i dunno frank lampard is the only regular PK taker for club and so maybe you would think he'd be given a look but i dount becks would relinquish those duties and if he was a true fighter he'd plug away and take the next pk to make amends for the past two, dont cower away, now if he misses the next one, then throw all i said aside coz i will fly to portugal or wherever they are and have a right go at him. LOL.
Come on England!!!

Come on England!!!Thanks, but it wasn't me who suggested MO for PK's. Read "nicephoras' " post.
I used to play in goal for some pretty good teams in 5 country's. And when the shooter comes in, drops his right shoulder and opens his foot to side it. Then you take a step to your left and say "Thank you Mikey!"
Goalies, a lot better than I, know where to go.
