Everton defender Phil Jagielka was threatened with a knife by thieves who broke into his Cheshire home.
The 27-year-old was watching his team play Hull City on television in the Carling Cup when three men stormed into the house in Knutsford.
He was forced to hand over jewellery and the keys to his Range Rover car after being threatened with a knife.

Scary stuff to say the least.
I suppose these thieves thought Jags would be away from home?

The clearly didn't do their research, he's been injured for the past six months!
These are probably the same muppets who broke into Big Duncs house a few years ago,
bad idea....

i dunno... the ones who hit big dunc should have learned their lesson... however, there are what 11 pro football stars who've been robbed in cheshire in the past few months or something? year? all the same situation.
but i agree. ********ed up if they thought he wouldn't be home... and even if he wasn't, what about his wife and kids?
some people are just dispicable. :(

If this trend continues I wonder if it might affect future transfers in.
After all, a lot of these players are married and some have kids.
So you'd think some of their families might have second thoughts of moving to northwest England if it gets the reputation of being the mugging/burlaring hotspot of the UK

It hasn't for Liverpool or us.
Gerrard, Litmanen, Kuijt, Dudek, Agger, Reina, van der Meyde (twice!), Dunc, Rooney (while he was still with us I believe) have all been robbed in the last decade.

Plus Fletcher, Santa Cruz, Pennant, Heskey, Crouch, Sinama-Pongolle, Robbie Keane, Lucas Leiva....... it may have to come to the point where footballers have to pay for private security to look after their homes. :o

Do they have gated communities in England?
In the U.S., they're fairly common. Though much of the time, they're in upscale, well-policed towns where they aren't really needed.
But in the case of Merseyside, it seems as though it might actually be good to have this sort of thing.

Disturbing story at BBC about the robberies of Jags and other EPL players:

I always thought of England as relatively safe compared to the States, but that's certainly not true when it comes to professional athletes and their families.

No, upstanding tax paying citizens don't. Just scum that do.
Britains the biggest police state in the world. Soon we'll have to have a license to fart.
