I know many players and many teams, both club and country, have a player that dives.
But after watching the Spain v Greece match today, I am completely disgusted with Greece!!!! After playing such an excellent first match against Portugal, they came out today with dive after dive.
This is what I cannot stand in Football! It is getting beyond belief. I was very happy to see Spain play through several DIVES Greece had done today without playing the ball out of bounds. How does Spain truly know to show it's sportsmanship if they know Greece is diving to slow the game?
It's ridiculous!!!!!

Don't blame Greece bud. First off, yeh Greece played an excellent match against Portugal because Portugal does not dive. Greece did not have to lower their quality of play in order to match their opponent's.
Watch the game over again and tell me who started the diving and fake injuries guy. In the first minute a Spanish player went down acting like he was hurt when he was barely tapped. It happened many times later on with Raul and the only way the Greeks would have a chance in this match would be to do the same back to the Spanish.

I´m Portuguese and I don´t understand why you people say that Greece play very well against Portugal. They defend well and have luck that´s all!
If you look for the official statistics of UEFA you wiil see!
And about the diving of the greece players? The Greek players had taken the game diving and nobody spoke of this.

I see Greece won 2-1. I see shots on target very close. I see Portugal owning ball possesion but it might as well be useless if all you do with it is dance around like Portugal did.
You don't win your qualifying group on pure luck. Nor do you end up 1st place in your finals group on pure luck.
Good luck vs Spain btw.

Spiro, what on earth are you on about? Portugal does not dive??? In the 2nd half of Portugal-Russia there were 2 instances that would make anyone sick. The first was when Alenichev and Maniche were tussling, Maniche went down and the ref blew the whistle. Alenichev stupidly kicked the ball away but it hit Maniche in the body. What did Maniche do?? He started rolling around the ground clutching his FACE. Rivaldo, anyone? Later one Nuno Valente went to ground after being barely touched and pretended to be hurt as well. So please do not be a stupid hypocrite. Spain were not particularly filthy today. Did you see the Greek player (can't remember who) pulling Puyol backwards by the shirt for a good 3 seconds as he was dashing into the penalty box? If that wasn't a red card i don't know what is.

No. When Greece played Portugal it was a clean game. There was no diving. When Greece played Spain, the Spanish brought their acting game with them and made the Greeks use theirs as well.
It is plain and simple. I have watched enough Greek soccer to know that Greeks don't dive. It is a tactic they used in this game because their opponents used it, so don't expect them to dive unless they play a team that dives.

¿You do realise that anybody with Eurosport and who can see the highlights of the Greek league knows you're full of it right? In case you were only talking about the Greek national team, well, people with Eurosport and who watched the highlights of the qualifiers would know you're full of it as well. It's an old fashioned win-win situation.
Nice performance of "The Indenial" though. :)

ALL you Europeans dive. Maybe you should take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

In my ideal world England wouldn’t be in any competitions! Ok, maybe in an anger management competition but that’s about it.

I do. Only because some Spaniards here seem to wish us harm.

I'm not the one saying there aren't players on my team that don't dive, or some lame ass "justification" that it's only done when the other team starts it...which if you're talking about Greece makes it even more lame ass because it's untrue.

Says the guy who apparently never saw a Greece game :D
Yeah, you've seen enough of their games to say they don't dive...that would be 0 then.

I too was disgusted by Greece's diving!
I expected to be rooting for Greece in this bracket, but was totally turned off by their persistent diving.

I think that every team dives even the US if that is hard to believe. The teams I have seen that tend to dive the most are Italy, Portugal, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and France. It is a shame that the only way to get calls from the ref if you are fouled is to yell and jump up in the air grabbing your face or leg.
