Barring and obscene collapse by Greece, who should get at least a point from Russia, the Port Whine and Spain match will decide who advances....who do you got?

I think it will be a draw, with the Portugal crowd and such, i think Spain will have its work cut out for them but 1-1 seems like the result to me, which if Greece can gain a point would keep Portugal out....thoughts?

a draw means that greece can go out on the field and score a hundred own goals and still go through. the tiebreaker is head to head first.

head to head is only if 3 or more teams finish tied.....GD is the tiebreaker in 2 team ties

link: http://www.livescore.com/euro.dll?page=rules&sid=0406gP

these tiebreakers say that options (b) and (c) are in (more than 2 teams finish equal) situations....

if spain and portugal tie, spain has 5 points, portugal 4. if spain beats portugal, spain has 7 points, portugal 3. if portugal beats spain, spain has 4 points, portgual 6.

greece is currently on 4 points. there is no way there can be a three way tie in the group.

look at the link again. b & c apply in the event that more than 2 teams are tied on points. a - i.e. head to head results, applies in the event that two teams are tied on points.

That's not how I read it. Your link says that when two or more teams are tied on points, the first tiebreaker (option (a)) is "number of points obtained in matches between the teams in question." In the case of a two-team tie, that effectively amounts to a head-to-head tiebreaker. Thus a draw in the Spain-Portugal game would necessarily eliminate Portugal and send Greece and Spain through regardless of the Greece-Russia result.

For what it's worth, I think a tie is the most likely result, but I'm hoping very hard for the unlikely Portugal win.

This will be a great game that Spain will own.
Portugal have played quite bad so far, and their only chance to succes is to play with Ronaldo from start. But Spain will probable win.

Portugal will play better and dominate Spain, something which I have never seen anybody do, except for France in the last EC for 50 minutes. Still, I see the game set for a 0-0. It may just be that Casillas and the very underestimated Spanish defence will have their game, as Joaquin and Vicente bring the fear of god to the Portuguese every once in a while to keep them at bay.

I like Portugal and respect their soccer greatly. I wish we could both make it in as it should have been. Good luck.

As it should have been? Please. The two most overrated sides in soccer today are Portugal and Spain. Greece showed that if you play smart tactical soccer, both sides will buckle from the pressure. If there is one side that should go on, it is Greece.

You are already through, stop jumping up and down already before you luck runs out. You wish you were as "overrated" as Portugal or Spain, but you will never find players like ours. Be happy with what you've got and done already, and worry about the next game. There you go again, talking like you are gonna win this thing. "As it should have been" means "as it should have been", because, it should have been like that. Does not mean anything else, and it's a perfectly reasonable and although debatable with actual results, a completely irrefutable statement. Greece has proven to be a competitive team, but in no way to have better soccer that Portugal or Spain. What's there to talk about? Sit down, relax, and when you want to watch a real soccer match between to teams that can really entertain, turn on your TV on Sunday to watch Portugal-Spain. And enjoy while it lasts, which won't be for long.

A tie. Spain 2-2 Portugal. If Portugal win, I think it'll be 3-2. Spain is playing just a nudge better than Portugal in Euro 2004. Spain also beat Portugal 3-0 in a friendly late last year. For this matchup, though, it's going to be a case of who has the better game on the day. My scores are pretty optimistic because the offenses will be desperate to score early, specially Portugal's, and the shaky defenses will not be able to hold back so much. We all know Figo will play up against Raúl Bravo. Maybe Ronaldo shouldn't play. He's kind of a featherweight compared to Puyol.

Head-to-head record is always the first tiebreaker on the standings, whether it's two or three teams with the same number of points. It's just like in the Champions League. If three teams finish tied, you make a mini-table counting only the points and goals from the matches between those teams. However, that will not happen in this group. If Portugal beat Spain and Greece lose to Russia (fat chance! ), out of Spain and Greece, whoever has the highest goal difference or number of goals, if GD is the same, will go through. That's the only way I can see of Portugal and Spain going through and Greece missing the quarterfinals. Again, fat chance.

It will be nerve wrecking for sure. Thoug being portuguese I believe we will be the 2nd host to not make it to the 2nd round, after Belgium did the same in 2000.

ps-Scolari finally got some sense in his mind and played 5 FC Porto players. Seems a no brainer to me to play that many seeing how Porto was such a well oiled machine this year.

I just haven't seen enough finishing quality from Portugal yet this tournament to make me think that they'll beat Spain. I think they'll attack like crazy trying to get the goals they need, but I agree with Iberian that Spain's defense is very underrated (although they need Puyol to play). I think Portugal will get frustrated again when they can't finish after all their runs and passes, and then they're going to be in trouble from Joaquin and Vicente coming back the other way and taking advantage of Nuno Valente and Paulo Ferreira/Miguel pushing forward.

I think it'll be entertaining and up and down, but probably not as much scoring as the 2-2 and 3-2 predicitions I've seen on here already.

This was taken right off of the euro2004.com site:
Tie breakers
If teams finish level on points, then the winner of the match between the sides in question will finish highest, or should they have drawn, goal difference, followed by goals scored, qualifying record for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2004™, a fair play ranking and finally either a penalty shoot-out or drawing of lots.

Good lord. Not only have Ronaldo and Deco not been guilty of a single act of simulation all tournament, but they've brightened the tournament with their excellent play. I'd say that your bizarre fixation with diving reveals an astonishing lack of football knowledge, but I've heard so many equally ignorant observations that they have ceased to astonish me.

As much as it hurts me to say this, Portugal will not win the game. The way they're playing, the best result I can see them getting is a tie.
