Well, the Neville brothers have been with the club for years as they've come up through the youth system. Gary Neville is still the best English right back (Ok, that's not really saying that much, but it's true for the moment), and Phil Neville has proven to be a valuable utility player for us from time to time. They will probably both have to raise their level of play to keep any spots in our first team, and I see nothing wrong with that either. :)

I don't think Sir Alex is overlooking the defence, we've just bought Heinze and with Rio returning, we look pretty solid. Not as dangerous going forward as I would like, but solid. Besides, our strength in midfield should be more than capable of producing goals....

It seems SAF is concentrating on defense at the moment. Mexes would be nice but it looks like he doesn't want to play for us.

He may have agreed to terms, but as far as i know the clubs have not struck a deal yet... but i could be wrong.. i thought they were using us to drive up the transfer price...

Probably, but as someone else already mentioned, is he going to start at ManU?? Probably not. Would he start at Arsenal? Probably not. Seems to me he wants to go get some first team football, and you know how all those defenders just love Serie A, anyway.

Really, he would have been nothing more than cover, and ManU has more than adequate cover as it is.

I am happy with our defensive options next season -- Rio, Brown, Silves, G. Neville, O'Shea, Heinez. Two of them will not be starting. This will ensure competition even if we have 1 defender out injured. Of course, it will be nice to add another young promising defender like Mexes to further increase the competition. The competition will help them develop.

Btw, I am pretty impressed with the German defender Lahm. He reminded me of the young Lizarazu (the French defender who plays for Bayern), skillful and paceful with excellent positioning. He's pretty young also, only 20 years old.

Silves has been unlucky in the last two games for france but he looks much better in central defence.

He is actually on loan to Stuttgart from Bayern. They loaned him to Stuttgart for 2 years but want to cut the loan short because he impressed so much.
