What the F happened to Sesame Street!?!?!

Any of you have small kids or just watch Sesame Street for the fun of it? Oh my god! What happened to the show we grew up watching? Elmo, that little sh!t is everywhere you look. There's a whole portion of the show with him in this blue-screened digital room where he doesn't interact with any characters. Ernie and Bert no longer live together. I never even see Bert. Did they get divorced? Oscar makes cameo appearances. He should be showing up more often, because he's got a hell of a lot more to be grouchy about now than he ever had. Big Bird is even more of a whining b**** than ever, especially in a daily segment called, "journey to ernie" which is a two person game of hide and seek that takes us away from Sesame Street yet again for a large chunk of the show. No more pinball game with the 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 music. No more ladybugs picnic or any great musical montages they used to have. One positive- the store is called Hooper's.

I think I've seen a quick shot of Bert in the intro to the show. Otherwise, he's apparently left Ernie and moved to the south side of Sesame City.

Actually, I'm a big fan the E. It's a bit creepy the supernatural power that he holds over all 3 and unders, but he's a pretty positive little furry chap. He's designed to be a 3 year old and I have to say he's a remarkable creation -- his language is perfect 3 year-old-ease (always referring to himself in the third person) and yet still manages to throw in some subtle wise-cracks for the adults. I've know a few kids for whom "Emmo" was one of the first words uttered.

My almost-2-year-old-daughter has managed to establish a deep relationship with him even though we rarely let her watch tv. But if I do, it's usually just to watch the Elmo portion of S.S. She shrieks in delight, sings the song, maybe does a little dance, then tunes out.

But a sister in law sent us an Elmo doll, and she loves it.

Yeah, my kids like Elmo too (they're 2). I can see how he appeals to their age, but SS wasn't a show for infants and toddlers when I grew up, and I guess that's what's disappointing.

Another positive: really good guest stars, almost at a muppets level.

Ernie and Bert split up a few years ago over some religious/political issues. Bert unhealthy dedication to the Islamic fundamentalist movement really drove a wedge between them. I'm afraid we may have another John Walker Lindh situation on our hands with Bert.

When Jim Henson died about 14 years ago, didn't Frank Oz say, basically, that he couldn't see doing Bert without Jim Henson doing Ernie? I think they stopped making new bits at that time and maybe the old ones just got...old.

Btw - do they still show the "count"? What about "super grover" i remember that guy. It made me chuckle years back, ok ok fine, last year.

The "Count" reveals the number of the day for us every day, and shows up in skits here and there. I've seen Super Grover once in the current era, and he didn't change. They even used the same music.

Yesterday they showed an old clip of the typewriter on wheels that kind of hums, "Nooneenooneenoo" and types words on himself and whatever he types appears. He typed "cat" and some big bobcat thing came in so he typed "little cat" and it turned into a house cat.
