I must confess while I have on a number of occasions been advised "Gertcha Cowson" and been cognisant of the general intent of the speaker (this mainly occurred when I was working as a Roadsweeper in Ilford) I have absolutely no idea what the individual words actually mean.
As the guy who said it most was in charge of looking after the army's bootlaces during the invasion of France (some soldiers you give weapons; others are best left to look after the bootlaces) I'm guessing he was more nearer some of your ages than mine.
