Late in the game he went into a hard tackle that was late and studs up in the knee and thigh -
RED CARD everytime - Barthez did the same thing in the EUFA Cup Championship game and got Red Carded - Totti should have been as well
Too late now except for a hefty fine and Suspension from the next game

According to dr.dk it has been decided that Totti gets a 3 match suspension.
EDIT: Totti said he didn't remember the episode, and wanted everyone to know that it was a "different" Totti.

He obviously deserved the ban.
Nonetheless if I was some chief of the italian staff I'd point a camera on every danish player in next matches.
And then I'd present evidences of any bad behaviour.
Don't think about it as some kind of revenge... :D
it's just because I want to be sure that all the danish players behave as gentlemen in the pitch

First off, yes, if the ref had seen it, Totti should have been shown at laest a yellow card
Uh, no. Spitting is a mandatory red card offense according to Law 12, FIFA Laws of the Game. If the ref saw it, yellow is not option (by the book).

Just like the UEFA rumours said yesterday, he got a three-match ban. The Italian FA has 24 hours to appeal the decision but, as it stands, Totti will miss tomorrow's game against Sweden and the final Group C fixture against Bulgaria, as well as Italy's quarter-final tie if they progress from their group.
However, Totti could play against Sweden if the UEFA appeals body decided to suspend the sentence following an appeal.

Just because the official did not see it, the incident was caught on video/film and he should be fined. That kind of behavior cannot/should not be tolerated.

it would be a complete and utter fraud if he were able to play against sweden with the video they have

That is a huge blow for Italy, but I still think they will win their next two games and top the group with 7 points. Only problem is without Totti Italy will not win their quarterfinal game against either Holland or Czech Rep.

Hi
I think it's well deserved. In this kind of tournament you got to be ready for your opponents to try to have you lose your cool when you are a world class player like Totti like the danish player did. But spitting or hitting is a big NO-NO.
Henry on my french side scares me often in these situations, he can lose his cool too.
Now about some of you thinking Italy has drastically reduced their chances to go to the 1/4, just beware.
Italy has always been a very dramatic team in qualifiers.I am 37 Y.O. and have seen them in many WC and Euros the azzurris are never more dangerous in these kind of situations. They also start their tournaments very slowly and finish strong.
Go France!

Of course he should be. According to people on this site he did it more than once too. In fact out of the tournament as a whole. I'd rather be headbutted, punched or kicked than spat at in the face. The ultimate disrespect to me. Only B#%&ches do that. Then again what should I expect from someone who when questioned about his peformance vs. Denmark is quoted after the match: ....."These new shoes given to me by the manufacturers caused me great discomfort, I've never experienced this on a football pitch before. The socks didn't fit my feet either. I have some blisters on my feet now. My feet are in a lot of pain". (end quote). Hey Francesco, perhaps you should say that to impoverished kids in Latin America & Africa that play football for hours barefooted that dream of being a star like you are. Or perhaps say that to DerKaiser Beckenbauer who once played a WC semi-finals match vs. Italy with a dislocated shoulder and his arm in a sling. Punk.

It will be interesting to see if he gets villified in the gazzetta del a sport and such if Italy fail to make it out of the group and he is suspended. Totti's actions were a disgrace; the intentional possible career threatening tacke alone was a red and a 2game ban and then being caught on VT spitting in the face of an opponent.. >_< !
There can be no way to justify him not being kicked out of the tournament and if he is not it will be because his name is Totti.
The guys just lost all advertising deals and made a disgrace of himself on the biggest stage outside of the WC. This could affect his Azzuri career indefinitely. He might not even make it to WC 2006 if he is held accountable for an Italy demise... (thinks Baggio) I've never liked Totti because of his attitude and the general disdain I've seen him show on the pitch, but this game is certainly the low point of his career. It could take him years to recover from this.
And Pirlo is not Totti..different roles..different responsibilities..Del Piero is poor and Itay have no OM/Supp Stri who is going tofill Totti's boots.. he's just shafted his team in every conceivable way!! tut, tut. Trapp will have to play a different system now. The Milan system may well see the light of day now. Winning without him will blow Totti's future just as badly as if Italy bow out the comp now. Either way he's screwed..and rightly so. Damn Imbecile.
Actually, Fiore can slot into Totti's role. But I think the Milan system should have been implemented long ago.
Considering the game Totti had, I'm really not sure how much this hurts Italy.

LOL, with the talent Italy has, they should easily be able to beat Sweden and Bulgaria and they will be favored to do so with or without Totti. Unfortunately though, Italy has a clueless coach.

I wouldn't favor Fiore in that role, personally. But, he can't do any worse a job then Totti did vs. Denmark..possibly...It's a gamble that you shouldn't have to take in a tournament, it's something that should be tried and tested beforehand.

He plays a fairly similar role for Lazio, actually.

I might have done a better job.

Which is why you play friendlies to start new players. Hey, why didn't Trap think of that

Heh, Tottis attourney said that it should not be considered as a spitting incident because the spit on video in her view didn't hit Poulsen in the face, and then said that every player commits fouls like these during 90 minutes

If this drama continues it will take away from the focus on the tournament, it is absolutley ridiculous how this is being turned into an OJ-like fiasco. It was terrible of Totti, he should be fined and face the consequences for sure. But i don't agree with video footage deciding a football game. I'm sure players have done this plenty of times in the past and gotten away with it. Suspend him for a game and fine him, end of story.

Soccer is so far behind other sports where video footage catches crucial errors of referees. No referee can be perfect. So they should be able to stop the game in critical situations and use video evidence to decide whether something was a penalty, a goal etc. or not. It's ridiculous that a referee has to make a perfect decision in a split second and that errors resulting from that can change the outcome of a game and an entire tournament. One only has to remember how Italy and Spain got pushed out of WC 2002 due to absurd decisions. Video footage will help the game and referees become more accurate.
As far as using it after a game for fouls missed etc., this will also make it a more fair sport. Certainly it should be used for all players, not just the top ones.
