Anyone have a subscription to the Wall Street Journal here? There was a reporter at the game on sunday in c'bus and I was talking with him, just curious if anyone caught the article. (we usually get it at work, but the last 3 days it hasn't come, i'll be so pissed if the subscription ran out on friday).

On the San Antonio articles:

Permanent Alamodome= no dice. The UTSA opportunity looks interesting, but they would have to double the capacity, which is actually four times their proposed immediate capacity. These teams need to be so inredibly well positioned from the start. Starting out with a huge negative and hoping to sway the city later is a bad strategy. The league doesn't need to contract another team or start moving teams at this stage.

Wow, that was 8 years ago. I was at that game: my first in-stadium MLS experience AND my first US-Mexico game. IIRC, the Tampa Bay-LA game also ended regulation tied at 2-2. Of course, the MLS game did not end there: the Galaxy picked up the win in the shootout.

I also remember how there were few American fans in our section. Our repeated attempts at chanting "USA" were quickly drowned out by "ME-XI-CO." It was a great atmosphere.

This is a great story. Hota is an old style ethnic club of which few are left in this country. The field though is truly immaculate. Wide and flat with international goals smack in the middle of urban sprawl.

Brazil `great measuring stick' for U.S - Sun Sentinel

Nice to see that the Brazilian goalkeeper believes the U.S. will win a major championship - even a World Cup. That mentality contrasts against many others, especially many in Europe.
On the other hand, dang it, I thought we were going to sneak up on a lot of soccer countries. Apparently the players as least have a eye on us.

In the Youth forum, they're talking about the following, because of its Fro Adu mention: Sweet 16 (http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/20040609-9999-lz1s9soccr.html) - SD Union Tribune

Even though I'm not an England fan, this quote from the bottom of the article will make a nice .sig (once Holland is eliminated, that is ;) ):

"A typical England performance can be an emotional and physical rollercoaster ride for supporters. A bad decision from the ref, a stunning free-kick from (David) Beckham, or most risky of all, a penalty shootout, can provoke reactions among fans that sometimes lead to post-match pain and injury."

Then they have the gall to chide us for not calling soccer by its "proper" name.

Wankers, you started it! Bugger off - we start using phrases you made up, then decide to discard, and suddenly we're in the wrong.

Let's see.. I wonder how many English speaking countries call it football and how many call it soccer? It's not just us. New Zealand, Australia, Canada, some island nations too..And isn't there a well known program in Britain called "Soccer Saturday" also?
