The England/France finish was crazy.
And RVN's goal today was amazing.
The two games I've seen have been dry for long spells, but definitely had their redeeming moments.

There is a moment of suspense...but the game play is blinding me .

The Czechs had a heart attack but still won. Sorry there aren't any dribble-happy ball hogs doing tricks and such..

The tournament has been alright. some of the games have been a little poor (Switzerland vs Croatia) but the other matches have been very good. Italy vs Denmark was a very good battle, England vs France was an outstanding display of passion. Germany vs. Holland was a little poor but the game was still worth watching. the Portugal vs Greece match was quality...Regardless, the tournament is not crap. As it progresses it will be more and more exciting!

It's good to see a Mexican fan doing the same thing with Euro footie as they do with the American game.
The Mexican Senior Nats can't come close to scoring on America, yet alone even contemplating beating them, but no matter what they say US play is crap, no fun to watch, unskilled, boring, etc.
There is "always" an excuse. Even after being totally dominated skill wise, tactically and play wise last match by our B team every excuse and denial in the book were thrown out.
Just the way it is. You can beat them all of the time, but there is always a legitimate reason why they are better.....
IN THEIR MINDS OF COURSE. DENIAL AT IT'S BEST.
I'm sure he will be thrilled to watch Copa B sides take each other on (that's if all of the countries even bother showing up). Mexico has excelled at the Copa in the last 10 years because they take it seriously while the rest of the continent sends B teams.
Of course, that is true football. The only true football you robotic Euro's.
Just another day in the US as soccer fan...

I think it has been good so far and it is likely just going to get better.
Most of the teams will have worked out the opening day jitters. A few favorites are in must win situations. Some of the underdogs have won or looked quite capable of doing so. More teams will subccumb to internal divisions and media fights. Countries will call for their coach's head. A surprise team will make the Qf. Huge QF and SF matches will put the top teams in win or go home situations. It is quite possible that we'll see a few rematches (think Eng-Fra) of interest.
I don't understand how people can be excited by the World Cup yet turned off by this tournament. The level of play has been at least as good as the opening days of j/k2002 and much better than some (think S.Arabia). I know many of us don't have a personal stake in these games but if you like soccer it is hard not to like Euro2004.
The only game that has really been horrible in my opinion was the Croatia-Swiss match. Even Sweden's romp was a nice match for the first half.

Just because there aren't goals being scored left and right and no players dribbling half the pitch mean this tournie is in bad shape. I think it's going along great.
France - England match was a pulsating encounter as was the Germany - Holland match.
I'd say the only ones that have been stale were Sweden - Bulgaria and Swiss - Croatia.

I'll tell you.
The last World Cup meant losing sleep to watch matches.
This Euro means losing $20 per match so I've only seen two. 8)
Every tournament has its memorable games and this one should be no different. I'll have to say that the two matches I've seen haven't been classics, but they were worth watching. I can't wait until the knock out phase.

You mean teams like Italy and Croatia, who finished 3 and 4 points BEHIND Mexico in their WC group. I guess Mexico was embarassed winning the group while Croatia were proud to be on the early flight home.

People, people. There was nothing these days than watching Honduras-Antillas, Mexico-Bermuda (I think), and USA-Granada, you have to update yourselves. :p OH!, I forgot Cuba tying Costa Rica. That was a soccer match.
I particularly love watching El Salvador soccer replays here in the US, watching the stadium for 200 people with no walls or seats, the teams playing on the dirt in the patches of grass right after they removed the cattle.....it is exilarating when a fan throws a chicken in the field so everybody runs after it!, the zenith of the game, you truly learn to love soccer when you watch something like this happen. The feeling, the speed, the fans screaming....the chicken running for its life!
How does Mexico finish on top of Italy or Croatia in the first round of a WC, playing against those teams all year? Hey, running after farm animals really makes you fit! just try dribbling with a gallina! you should see when they go after a wild sheep! Nothing better to break the italian catenaccio, I'll tell you that much. How Croatia got to the semifinals, or Italy has three world cups and gets to finals while Mexico stays behind is beyond me. Such bad luck for the Mexicans...they are truly the underachievers of the world of soccer, such wasted talent.
I really hope they do better in the next...two, three hundred years. Maybe the Gold Cup of the Concacaf will get to the level of this EC, who knows!
There are two inevitable things about European Championships. Firstly, some Yank fan will proclaim that, based on a win against some tinpot CONCACAF nation, the US is a better team than team x - usually England - playing in the EC. Secondly, someone will claim that the EC is a really crap championship and no match for the CONCALAUGH Gold Cup and the Copa 'B team' America.
I see this edition's running true to form.

Well, you got me!! I guess you missed the key word'' WILL' embarass Mexico!! That means ..Now, or in the future ,, not at the ..Alamo!!!
Forget Croatia and all the other teams, Mexico is being
embarassed constantly by the 'gringos', who ,in their opinion, 'They don;t know soccer, they got money, they buy matches''!! You can't even Imagine how many times I heard that from my Mexican Friends!! They never admit That US is better than they are right now!!
There is abosolutelly no new generation In Mexico right now, they're doomed! While US has at least 2 good genarations!!
So , i guess you really got me!!
Forget Croatia, Mexico could not beat ....Latvia, or Macedonia right now!!
I watched them a lot, its over!!
I gues you got me!!! (ad your sarcastic sign here)

There have only been one round of matches thus far, so it's a little early to be calling the whole tourney garbage at this point...I mean, after all this thread wasn't started in WR.
That being said, I think the tournament has been good if not great so far. Hopefully it will pick up momentum as it continues.

"will" I guess you are right. a million monkeys, a million typewriters, a million years.
None of us know what will happen in the future. Will any of the teams in Euro embarrass Mexico in the future. Given enough time and enough matches, sure they will. And yes, at this exact moment in time, Mexico does not look too good. I wonder how many of you thought that Mex would be embarrased by the Euros in 94, 98, and 02. It did not happen. They were crap in qualifying last time but played well in the WC. I am not one who believes they will win the WC anytime soon or even in my lifetime. But there is a huge discrepancy between winning the WC and being embarrased.
Every country has their peaks and valleys, and at the moment Mexico appears to be in a valley. But they usually play well when tourament time rolls around. After watching the US in the Confed Cup, I could say it is all over for them also, but things change. Judging by their two games before the Euro, it looked as if Germany could not beat Latvia or Macedonia. But they, like Mexico, play to their potential when it counts.

There have been some predictably dull games - Switzerland vs. Croatia being the case in point. However, keep in mind that Croatia was a man up.
I think very few of these games have been even - we've seen a lot of bunker ball vs. possession. That can make for enthralling games. The problem is that Croatia can't do crap with the ball. The Spanish, meanwhile, played a pretty entertaining game, as did the Greeks against Portugal. Neither game was boring.
The England France game was terrific, too.
