We talked about this a long time ago, but I just got around to finishing it.
There seems to be a great deal of resentment from the fans about the new crest. Everything from "the cannon doesn't face the heart" to losing the motto.
I've created a new crest that's an amalgam of the old and new, taking into account the concerns I've heard.
After I started it, I saw that Gunflash had created something substantially similar. So I can't claim that it's a totally original idea, but maybe we're all onto something here....

not having really seen arsenal's logo before i'd say it's pretty tight...
random question: what program did you use to create it?

Thanks!
I work in Adobe Illustrator.

It's a real solid look. Can you send me that one, too? It's going to be tough to see which one will look best on the back of a red jacket, but with the gold outline that one might do the trick.
Thanks for the other ones again.

I was guessing maybe it was AI. I used to have it before my computer crapped out. Working with logos in Photoshop is mucho more difficult in my opinion.
I just went to the Arsenal site and I definitely like it better with more "old school" type lettering.
Maybe you could offer an opinion on my soon-to-be-redesigned logo.. google north shore rugby football club, logo is top left. i need to give it something more

Your NSRFC logo isn't bad, but IMHO it's a little too generic. Needs some punch.
I'd be glad to work on a new one for you. Do you have any vector files of the current crest?

agreed. i had no real experience with photoshop when I made it and pretty much just needed something temporary.
i have all the (photoshop .PSD) files at home can shoot them over to you tonight (i assume I can email you through BS or you can email me @ nsrmm@hotmail and I'll reply tonight). i had recently put two circles around the whole logo with north shore rugby football club in between the circles, and it looked decent but it was lost along with illustrator.
thanks for the feedback/help! (and sorry to divert your thread)

Nice job. I like it. I think the reason they switched the cannon round was due to it being the Woolich Arsenal logo or somesuch, and the whole reason for change was copyright issues.
I despised the new badge, and STILL prefer the older style, but its grown on me somewhat now....

The official reason for the change was that, because the club could not conclusively establish who created the crest, they could not copyright it. That is no longer true, as the courts have ruled that Arsenal alone holds the rights. They could now use the old crest if they wanted, but they don't.
Fair enough. They want to establish a new identity. Myself, I was never a huge fan of the old crest - too busy for my taste. I love the "art deco" 1930s crest, though.

Speaking of which, why do you suppose Arsenal doesn't market any throwback designs? I would bet that there's a market for it (TOFFS seems to do very well). I would love a red baseball cap with the 30s crest.

Gothamite,
I love the new crest you created. Cannon facing the proper direction, great font, love the latin, and also adding the 30's crest.....too bad AFC won't leave the current crest for another few years.

Thanks! I have a feeling that many Arsenal fans would like it, since most of the design process was listening to the gripes about the current crest. ;)
Here's another one I've been working on. It's closer to the 1930s shield, with the full team name and the addition of the Art Deco crest. I've been thinking that a white crest would look better against the red shirt.

I know it's too simple, many will say it's too boring, but I wanted to create something that looked like it could have been used during the Chapman era. Next up, I'm going to work on a Victorian-era crest.

I was actually at the Southampton game two years ago when they unvieled the current crest. The whole place was booing and whistling. I really think they got some kid who needed to pass his A-levels in art to do the logo, because it sucks. There was no reason to abandon the lettering style. That in and of itself would make it less crap, but that's just me.

Beautiful stuff, Gothamite, ergo the need for AFC to copyright something not so easily represented. The real twist is the two shades of red, if you ask me, in the new "official" crest.
What I like most is the incorporation, Gothamite, in your two designs, of the real old crest you see in the loo at Highbury.
Could Arsenal America use these designs w/ our own supporter's club merch or would AFC take offence?

Goth,
Arsenal tells toffs shirts in its own store repackaged and relabelled with Arsenal logos. I guess they figure why do work someone else has already done and it still doing well.
Looking at your second logo, before reading any of the words I though "How very 30's". Then I saw the old 30s strip and its very similar. Looks so dated now that kit eh.
And DoctorK, the old AFC logo from "the day" is still quite prominent around highbury, not just in the loo's :) Its also in the top corner of all the stands, as well as by the front door.

I know - that's one of the things I'll miss about Highbury - the old crests everywhere. Tradition.
Toffs puts the "Arsenal Collection" labels on all its Arsenal shirts. I don't think it's a matter of the club trying to take credit for someone else's work. Nobody really thinks they personally manufacture them anyway.
I would love to see Arsenal America create merchandise with these logos. Especially the Art Deco crest. I want a cap with that crest. If they won't sell it, I don't see why they would mind the American fan club selling it. I also don't see the harm in having one custom made if the club doesn't offer one.

Just as an aside, are there any clubs that wear a shirt badge other than their club crest? I know there aren't any in the Premiership, but in other levels?
It used to be that teams would have their crest and a simplified badge for the shirt. In many cases, I think that looks so much better.
Liverpool, I'm talking to you....
