Who can be used an out and out DM in his absence? P.Neville? King?? Hargreaves?

I fear the loss of Butt is going to be costly when his ability to win the ball in tough games is needed. :(

We managed against France, I'm sure we can manage against others too.

FWIW though, I would put Jamie Carragher into a holding role if that deployment really became necessary.

King should be in there ahead of Carragher, he can play defensive midfield at a push, he has experience of playing it, not that this will become necessary.

Hargreaves will slot in there if needed, not that he will. There is no tougher game than France in the whole championship, the team didn't need him then so I cannot see them needing him for any others.

Best piece of news I've heard for ages - Butt is a fcuking liability and absolutely no loss whatsoever - as a matter of fact I despise him even more now, as he has denied Jermaine Defoe the opportunity to go! Just shows he can even fcuk us up, without being on the pitch!

After Sunday's performance, you would have to give Ledley King the opportunity to play that role, if you need it, after all it is where he has been playing for Spurs. But do we? I don't think so - the midfield against France, supported the defence admirably and snuffed-out the French attack.

I would stick with virtually the same line-up other than John Terry in, and if Scholes is injured put Rooney in the slot behind Heskey and Owen, this would make Mikey far more effective.
