On this date.....
1994 - Colette Cunningham becomes the first woman to play in a men's professional soccer game in the United States as she plays two shifts for the Washington Warthogs in a 9-4 loss to the Dallas Sidekicks in Continental Indoor Soccer League play.
1995 - A 1-0 loss to Norway in Vasteras, Sweden ends the US Women's National Team's hopes of repeating as Women's World Cup champions.
1998 - The US opens the 1998 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 loss to Germany in Paris. I think we all know the rest of the story.
2002 - MetroStars' Mamadou Diallo scores four goals in a 5-0 win over Los Angeles.

JMU, I notice you're posting any of the stories about Euro 2004, are you like me in that I could absolutely care less about that tournament? Am I the only one here?

No you aren't. Maybe when they reach the knockout rounds but even though friends of mine were heading to our local pub to watch the England-France match on Sunday, I chose to watch the US instead. (though after all was said and done...I probably should have gone to laugh at the Brits crying in their beers) ;)

I do care about it, but since this site is basically U.S. centric, I don't take the time to dig up news on the tourament. If someone wants to take the time to post Euro2004 news, they're welcome to do so on this thread. It would simply take too much time for me to do it.
I do, however feel that us Yanks are curious to know what is going on in our region, so that's why I have been posting Concacaf News recently. I actually wouldn't mind some feedback as to whether posters find that interesting.

There's just no interest for me because there's no rooting interest. I watch foreign leagues because I can see or hope to see someday Americans playing in those leagues. Certainly the quality of ball is great and exciting, but with the Euro tournament I just don't really care. If Switzerland upends some team what's it to me? Maybe if all the games were on FSW I'd watch, I'll try to catch the ones they are airing but I doubt I'll remember. I wouldn't pay a cent to watch these games.

There is more to soccer than just MLS, you know. ;)
I can't get to the Ives article. I'll get the text later from MLS, but I wanted to see if it's close to WTF I was saying three years ago, and got pilloried for.

I like this as a loose guideline. CONCACAF articles are interesting to me since we (the US) may see some of these teams down the road. And they generally get much less publicity (at least on these boards) than the Euro Nat teams who are now focused on winning their version of the Gold Cup.

I love the daily news threads. This is the best part of BS, IMO.
On that, I would love to see news from as far and wide as anyone wants to cast the next - as long as its soccer-related. Euro 2004 news? Yes. CONCACAF? Yes. If anyone has the time and inclination to provide this service.

From that:
When Arena arrived, the U.S. program lacked depth, star power and respect. In the almost five years since he took over, Arena has taught his team to win and develop stars from the system he has helped jumpstart.
Check me if I'm wrong, didn't he take over in November 1998? Which would be almost six years ago? Not to bring up that whole "Can anyone explain the math to me?" thread again, just sayin'.

Is it possible that from now on any thread started about the legality of Chivas USA or how MLS is going to bend over for Vergara gets these two statements....
The question on the minds of many MLS fans is whether Chivas USA will be allowed to bring in a number of Mexican players.
“I feel like I've been shouting this from the rooftops,” said MLS director of communications Trey Fitz-Gerald. “Any expansion team will be subject to the same rules and regulations as the rest of the league.”
....inserted into its first post. Perhaps a Mods note.
Just kidding. That wouldn't be any fun.
