This thread should be running swiftly for two weeks, with this being the split round and all...
Here are the split round's fixtures...
Friday, 18 June
St. Kilda v Hawthorn, at Telstra Dome, 7:30 p.m. Melbourne time
Saturday, 19 June
Geelong v Brisbane, at Kardinia Park, Geelong, 2 p.m. Melbourne time
Fremantle v Port Adelaide, at Subiaco Oval, 5:30 p.m. Perth time
Richmond v Carlton, at Telstra Dome, 7 p.m. Melbourne time
Sunday, 20 June
North Melbourne v West Coast, at Manuka Oval, 1 p.m. Canberra time
Essendon v Melbourne, at the MCG, 2 p.m. Melbourne time
Adelaide v Western Bulldogs, at AAMI Stadium, 2 p.m. Adelaide time
Saturday, 26 June
Sydney v Collingwood, at Telstra Stadium, 7 p.m. Sydney time
No normal Friday night game during the second week of the split round-- but rather, there's a Legends Game at Telstra Dome on for that night. My wife and I plan on being at that game, which will make up for the fact that we can't get out to the blockbuster of the first week, Geelong v Brisbane in Geelong, because I have to work.
Live audio webcasts for all games available on the AFL's official website (http://www.afl.com.au), just get to the site a few minutes before the opening centre bounce for the links.
Will have the stats up next, followed by the news of the week as pertinent.

Here are my tips for the week, and I'll take a chance or two here, seeing that I've only gotten five tips right in each of the last two weeks, and I'm falling behind in the tipping competition at work as a result of that. :(
Here we go...
St. Kilda v Hawthorn
Geelong v Brisbane
Fremantle v Port Adelaide
Richmond v Carlton
North Melbourne v West Coast
Essendon v Melbourne
Adelaide v Western Bulldogs
Sydney v Collingwood
I'm 61/96 so far this season-- and my god, I need an 8/8. Badly!

Teams story: Saints lose Maguire -- afl.com.au (http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=155596)
Biggest surprise is that Geelong's making four changes-- and among those, Paul Chambers is favoured over David Loats as the cover in the ruck for the injured Steven King.
In spite of missing King, I'm still tipping the Cats. :)

We have a couple different this week... I've picked Brisbane to beat my beloved Geelong Cats, Essendon to beat Melbourne and Richmond to upset Carlton. I hope I get Brisbane wrong, but considering we haven't beaten them since 1995, I have to base my tip on previous history between the 2 sides.
My current score is 59 going into this round.

Tipping a trifecta of Brisbane, Essendon AND Richmond?
[Wilbon on PTI]
Do they have electricity where you live??
[/Wilbon on PTI]
I have to give Geelong much more than half a chance against Brisbane for a few reasons-- it's OUR house, we can play OUR game against them, and the weather conditions will definitely suit us better.
Geelong forecast -- weatherchannel.com.au (http://www.weatherchannel.com.au/local/locationSearch.jsp?searchString=Geelong)
Much different that sunbaked Queensland, I'll tell ya... cold, windy, rainy, thunderstorms, and hailing, all possible at once. To us, that's paradise. :D
Essendon haven't really beaten anyone of any repute, in the top eight (well, they beat Freo a few rounds ago, but that was at Telstra Dome, and the Dockers have been bad travellers), and that pick of Richmond is looking more and more dicey by the moment, due to some late injury news involving their big full forward...
Richo hamstring query -- Richmond's official site (http://richmondfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=155719)
In a duel against Brendon Fevola and Carlton, Nathan Brown can't kick all the goals himself, he's going to require the influence of Richardson. If Richo doesn't play, I'll take "The Shag" over "Dr. Pink" any day.
I think an 8/8 is looking pretty good at this rate. :)

I hope I get Brisbane wrong, but I do believe Essendon will continue their recent domination over Melbourne, similar to what we do to the Demons. The Richmond one is more about a hunch rather then based on anything in particular, as I'd rather live and die by the sword then tip safe and have Richmond win!

With regard to the Essendon v Melbourne match, there's clearly more pressure on the Bombers than there is on the Demons. Not only are the Bombers in a lower position on the ladder, but the perception of "well, they haven't beaten anybody" weighs on them massively. A monkey on their backs? More like a friggin' gorilla...
Melbourne, meanwhile, may have overachieved a bit this year, but there's no doubting the amount of confidence they're playing with right now. The Demons have come from behind in each of their last four games, and they do so as if it's no big deal. But something tells me that if they get ahead against Essendon, watch out; it could be a long afternoon for Kevin Sheedy.
And if Matthew Richardson doesn't play, Richmond won't win... simple as that.

On my honor -- I haven't seen the results of matches already played -- but after a 5/8 week last week (and stateside, we're proud of that, William!) -- and 9/16 (barely over .500, but I'll take it) -- we once again plunge headlong into the raging surf below.
St. Kilda v Hawthorn - Saints bounce back against game but thin Hawks
Geelong v Brisbane Lions - Sorry Mr. & Mrs. babytiger and ScouseCat, but the Lions are just too strong
Fremantle v Port Adelaide - If anyone can break down Fort Subi, it's in form Power
Richmond v Carlton - Blues showing well...and it's about that time of year for the Tigers (sinking slowly in the east)
North Melbourne v West Coast Eagles - Just a hunch play here
Essendon v Melbourne - should be match of the round
Adelaide v Western Bulldogs - Crows lift in emotional finale for Smart
Sydney Swans v Collingwood - Pies feast on limping Swans
Submitted for your approval...whether you approve or not.

The Geelong Advertiser doesn't publish on Sundays-- but no matter. Looks like the Melbourne media has leaped on the Cats' bandwagon. :D
The cover of the Herald Sun's Sunday edition is pretty impressive, too.
And in last night's two other games...
Richmond v Carlton (http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=155881), at Telstra Dome:
Richmond 14.9 (93)
Carlton 18.16 (124)
Richo played for the Tigers, but "The Shag" kicked a bag for the Blues...

Actually, I've been quite fortunate this weekend. 6/7, with next Saturday night's blockbuster between Sydney and Collingwood to go. So far, I'm up to 67/103 for the season.
But yes, I think only a nuclear meltdown can give you a chance to get back into the race to catch me.
Thanks for the kind words, my friend.
