However since my Escape doesn't have a cassette player I will have to buy this adapter as well...

It says that it will work on several FM frequencies. My question is...how is the sound quality? I just worry that it will not be as clear as it would through an XM ready receiver.

I do not have the roady. I have the SkyFi, but I love the thing.
I don't know what that thing in the picture is, but it looks like it plugs into your cigarette lighter. I have an FM modulator in mine, and it runs off the car's power without any wires sticking out. I recommend that highly.
The sound is absolutely incredible. I couldn't believe it when I first heard it.
It is, hands down, the best purchase I've made in the last couple years.
BTW... I didn't see one in the ad... does the roady come with a remote? Mine has a remote, and I think it's much better with one. Of course, my car had a weird setup inside, so they had to install it in a weird place.
It's seriously wonderful though.

Just bought it for my wife the first week of June. It's great. But the factory stereo has CD and cassette, so we use that and not the FM modulator. Another option is to wire it directly to your auxilary input for your system if it has that capability.

You should consider Sirius sattelite radio. I have had both and like Sirius much more.

I looked at both, actually. They're pretty similar. The biggest reason I went for XM was because I wanted to replace the head unit in my car. I like Alpine, and wanted to stay with that brand.

Are there any major differences between Sirius and XM?

They are very similar. My bias has more to do with a stream offered by Sirius. I could not find one similar on XM.
Does XM offer a lifetime subscription. Pay Sirius $400 and you have it for life.
I do like my Kenwood "here2anywhere" unit that I can remove from the docking station in my car and take it into the house. That way I can enjoy sattelite radio on my stereo at home as well as in the car.

Sirius has NFL and a "jam band" stream. I do like improvisational music so that one stream is what swayed me into their corner.
They both share a lot of stations and formats. I love the comedy station.

I've heard that the only differences are in the channels. I heard that if you want sports, Sirius is the one... but I heard that the comedy channels and several of the others are better in XM.

The main reason we got the Roady was that I already bought the Alpine XM head unit, and you can get a second XM subscription for a "family rate" of $7.99 / month instead of $9.99 / month, so both cost a total of $17.98.
I really like The Rhyme (http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=65), Raw (http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=66), The City, Fungus (http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=67), Fred (http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=44), Squzz (http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=48), The Joint (http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=101), and some of the news channels. I also like the Traffic & Weather (http://www.xmradio.com/programming/neighborhood.jsp?hood=traffic) stations. I always check DC traffic when I leave in the morning and evening to see if I should avoid the Beltway.

Right now you can get a Roady with car kit for just $49 directly from XM. All you have to do is pay for three months of service up front and agree to at least 6 months of service.
That's what finally helped make up my mind. I got the Roady and 3 months of service for $79 (that included the activation fee as the unit will come "active"), and had I gone to a store I would have had to pay $119 for the unit alone without any service.
Pretty sweet deal, if you ask me.

Sirius has similar promotions. I got my receiver, docking station and 6 months service for $77. I just paid $400 for a lifetime subscription.
So I basically got all the gear I need andf sattelite radio for the rest of my life for less than $500.

I'm giving Sirius a shot, as well, as I just won an Audiovox Receiver with both home and car docking kits for $66 on Ebay.

The Roady arrived today, not already active as promised (I just called their customer service and they straightened it out with no problems).
I have to say I'm pretty damn impressed, but I will be going to the Circuit City tomorrow to pick up a remote. Those buttons are just so damn small!
