This is mine.

I've been extremely satisfied with it. Takes nice videos. Takes gorgeous pictures.

I would recommend a Kodak camera. I had a Kodak DC210Plus for many years before getting this one. It took great pictures as well, but I wanted to upgrade after my son was born. It was only a 1Megapixel camera, but people thought it was better.

This one's better... 3.something, I think.

It also comes with a dock that makes it really, really easy to get the pictures off.

I too am intrested in a digital camera...

The problem i have is that its too confusing. I am someone who would use the cheapest camera and the cheapest product just to make pictures...

I really couldn't care less if i use a disposable 11 dollar camera, compared to a 1100 Pentax camera...i just wanna make pictures....

I was in Costco and i saw a couple of digital cameras that started under 200 dollars CDN. and im intrested to get them./

the first one being some Olympus Camera with flash memory and everything. That went for 129.00 (As i saw) and it comes with 16 mb flash. Its a 2.0 Megapixel and i think it has zoom, but not optical zoom.

The next one which is kinda bulky but something that i liked was a Polaroid Digi cam, with 16 mb of Memory, 3x optical zoom and 3.0 megapixel. The guy in the store told me it was modest. and i kinda liked that..

but the thing is, is that im not a hardcore user. Overall, i have had 3 cameras in my entire life that was digi cam. My Web cam, a 80 dollar digi cam that i returned and a mini spy digi cam (as shown on tv).

I want something that can:
a) Take picture properly
b) have a back end screen
c) Have SD memory
d) Have chemical flash
e) Have some durabiliy
f) Be able to take pictures nice and easy...

I just need it for pictures and nothing more..
what should i do?

i have a sony cybershot DSC-P72 - takes great snaps and decent little movie clips - its very simple to use and was around $375 IIRC - my only mild complaint is that i wish it had a little more zoom on it when i'm at the football matches :D

if you have the issue of 90minutes w/ lalas on the cover, the full page AJAX-psv picture on page 3 was taken with this camera

My camera is old, and discontinued, so I doubt anyone here would want it or even be able to find it. I paid substantially more than $300 for it, but if it were still around you might be able to find it for that much.

I own a Sony Mavica CD-1000.

The good:
- 10x optical zoom
- Writes directly to an 8cm CDR. No transferring images to computer, then to CD, to archive. It's already done for me. And 8cm CDRs are cheap.
- "Partial" SLR. I have apeture or shutter control (not both :( ). Lots of preset modes, manual or auto focus, etc.
The bad:
- Only "partial" SLR.
- Slow. It takes time to write to CD, and I can't "stack" pictures in the queue.
- Big mo-fo.
The ugly:
- Only 2MP. :( (At the time I got this, 2MP was a pretty darn good camera.)

I'd like to get one of those 6MP SLR cameras, but don't have a grand lying around.

I'm like Foos - mine is old and discontinued. And boy did I spend too much money on it!

It's a Sony Cybershot - it's kind of small. The picture quality is fantastic though, Ziess lense, it's loaded with features including teh ability to make Mpeg movies. I love it. But then again many/most cameras today have those features for half of what I paid for it three years ago.

You can get some decent digital cameras without spending a ton of money. But where "the man" gets you is with the accessories. Memory sticks can be pretty expensive, and you need the scandisk hardware for your USB port to utilize the memory stick (in most instances, unless you have a drive in your computer to stick it in?) Just shop around. Look at Amazon, Circuit City, Bestbuy, etc. I'd probably recommend a warranty too with it.

I definitely recommend the investment though. Spend some money for the camera and imaging software and you can just keep using it again and again and again and save them to your PC. Of course, print out the pictures and get them developed if you can. But digital cameras are great.

I have a Canon S40.
I think they've come out with a Canon S43, which is the same thing with some upgrades. Can't complain. I can either go stupid mode or total control freak mode, and getting pics onto my hard drive is a piece of cake, mostly because of Apple's standard photo import software.

At 4 megapixels, it's bit of an overkill for most of what I do, but I like having the option of printing 8x10 in pics and the lenses are fantastic. I should probably stop dropping it on hard surfaces though - the lens cover is a little jacked.

That's what lens covers are for, bro!

Well yeah, but it's one of those covers that slide on and I now have trouble closing it. Plus, there's a crack in the front panel and the front shell doesn't quite fit.

Still, it's a fantastic camera and it has never failed me.

i have a nikon coolpix 4300. great digital camera. it does just about everything i need a digital camera to do, although i wish it had more of a zoom but alas, i wasn't about to spend upwards of $600 on a digital camera at this time...

just one thing, don't drop it on the concrete at the ArenA in amsterdam, you'll crack the video screen on the back for sure :)

My camera, the Olympus C-750:

http://www.datashop.cz/olympus/750.jpg

It is an awesome camera. The 10x optical zoom (40x digital) kicks so much ass it's not funny. It is 4 Megapixel, and has a pretty good video feature too.

I would strongly recommend this camera, and you can get it for around 350$-$400 on EBAY. I bought mine for about $620 4 months ago, but it was packaged with a 128mb card, two tripods, 3 filters, 2 additional lenses, an aluminum travel case, and a large camera bag.

Nikon D1 or D10 is the best.

Good news people!

I bought a new digi cam for my trip in the summer...

http://www.superstore-electronics.com/prod_images_blowup/pdc_2350_300.jpg

Its a Polaroid Photo Max PDC 2350..
Its a 2.1 Megapixel camera, with 16 mb of Internal memory and a SD and MMD slots. I am trying to learn how to use it. Seems a little hard IMO...

Its has a 3x Optical zoom and 3x digital zoom! Im not keen on getting 4-5-6 Megapixels, cause i want a basic camera, and easy to use one. I am currently having a hard time with this one (don't laugh!!!).....

so what do you guys think?

I've got the same camera and can't recommend it enough. I posted some links to some photos I've taken with it in the other Digicam thread on this page. I sold digital cameras at Best Buy for a year, so I got to play with a lot of different models. This one is the best I've used outside of the Digital SLR's like Mike has.
