Sams Army's Giant Flag looked fantastic on TV today. However, I would hope one day, we could have the US flag draped all over the damn place much akin to English or Irish flags when their side is playing. I am not sure to write on the US Flag is within etiquette- for instance - Baltimore across the stars and stripes. I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Also, do most stadiums prohibit any draping of flags or banners?

Good place to buy flags for cheap. Maybe when you go to a game you could pick up a few extra and hand them out or if possible sell them in the parking lots.

The USSF really should do a better job selling flags at the games. If people can buy them in the stadium, even if their cheaper flags like 3x5 or 4x6, for under $10 I would bet you will see them all around the place.

After some research- I guess it is wrong to write on the flag- according to the UNITED STATES CODE
TITLE 36
CHAPTER 10:

PATRIOTIC CUSTOMS
§176. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor

(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any
mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

I guess you be the judge of that. I still think it would be neat to have US Flags of all sizes draped over ever railing inside the park.

Civil War Regiments used to write their hometowns on their flags.

I think that if it's done tastefully and with good intentions, it's ok to write your city on the flag.

I'd rather see the fans bring in flags from their own states or use different "historical" flags such as Bedford, Gadsden, the First Navy Jack, etc.

Let's NOT put names of cities on flags. We're trying to promote togetherness. Besides, what's the point? Our cities suck mostly anyway, with no obvious exceptions.

I don't think it's a good idea to write on the US flag, but I guess you should do what you think is OK.

RevsFan- they WERE selling US flags at the United States game on Sunday.

Just a follow up to 10 fan's post, they were selling US flags at the match on Sunday against Grenada.

I think it would be easier for everyone to wear red, but even this is a challenge.

But almost any flag from the US would be nice to see at the match.

Civil War regiments were mostly known for writing or sewing the names of battles or campaigns which the regiment had had an important role in. I;m not picking by any means, you're still correct in that towns, county names, and state names having to do with the regiment were usually somehow denoted. I think it might be kinda cool to have "past battles". Ie US 3 - Portugal 2, 6/5/02, US 2 - Mexico 0, 6/??/02, etc... enscribed or sewen on the stripes of a flag. Unfortunatly to have it well done, custom-made flags can be damn expensive, I know from well, being in Gettysburg. And I don't even know how much a giant, section-size, custom made flag would cost.

Hey, just repping where your from. Besides, it's even a bigger sign of togetherness if you saw USA flags with city names from all over the country. Shows eveyone this is a nation-wide movement, and that it isn't just people from the city wherever the USA are playing at that moment.

Erm.......

Since it's against code to write names on flags, as been posted, why not compromise?

Bring USA flags and banners, or handmade signs declaring where people are from. Various "brigades" of sam's army have already done this. Plus, there'd be more banners in the stadium.

Or, make a banner that's 1/3 white, 1/3 red, 1/3 blue (like the italian or german flags) and write where you're from on it.

Here's a flag I'm slowly...slowly working on. It won't be all that big, but I think it'll look good hanging on railing next to the big Sams Army banner. :)

Hehe, do what I can. :D
The most tedious part, IMHO, will be the lettering. Everything else should be pretty quick and painless.

Really though, bring whatever you'd like, EXCEPT those laughable cowboy hats.

UNITED STATES CODE
TITLE 384*
CHAPTER B:

PATRIOTIC CUSTOMS
§07-04-1976. Respect for flag part II

The flag is not to be worn as a cape with the bottom edge touching the ground. All attempts to be patriotic with an Old Glory cape are null and void if it is touching the ground. Being hammered at the pre-match tailgate is no excuse.... actually there are none. Replies to your uniform adjustment (by other Nats support) like "At least I am here support the team/USA!" Are ridiculous. Save your breath, there are no excuses.

(g) Tailgating with a 'cape flag' offender will not release you from the wrath of other Nats support. He/she is your friend, and you should be the first to let them know they are out of line. If you rode to the stadium with this individual, then you could have spared yourself the embarrassment of public 'dressing down' by letting he/she know of the offending 'garment' at the house.

Where can I find a large, durable, but cheap US flag? Something bigger than the standard 3'x5' polyester thing that I see everywhere...... less than $30 would be ideal....
