From the fed:

Starting forward Conor Casey came out of the game in the 21st minute for Jovan Kirovski, after spraining his right knee as it buckled under him while challenging for a ball on offense. Casey is to be out for six weeks.

Not a good first step.

If you say "knee" and "six weeks" in the same sentence, that'd be good news to me ...The Telemundo guys had thought it was the ankle, so i did not think it was serious at all....

I'd say that's a relief, cause I thought it had all the markings of an ACL-type injury the way he landed.

I thought so too but when the trainer was examining him on the sidelines, the knee didn't look that unstable and the body language of player and trainer did not suggest something as serious as an ACL.

That being said, until the MRI you never know. I don't see how they can predict 6 weeks until after the scan either.

I'm with you here, it looked so much like the way Armas' leg buckled at the pre-WC friendly vs. Uruguay, except Casey landed doing it.

I doubt it will be 6 weeks, based on what I saw, but as you say, the MRI will tell all. Seems like he just lightly sprained it. Maybe 3-4 weeks.

Well, if it really is six weeks - and I'll believe it when he's playing again in six weeks (not that I have reason to think more or less, it just seems like they're wrong with this "instant diagnosis" as often as they're right) - nows the best time to tweak it. Six weeks is still July. Plenty of time to get back to shape. Doing this in August/Sept. would be a lot worse for getting a spot on the team.

Bundesliga starts on August 7/8, pre-season in late June - not really time to enter the starting team.

If there is no tear, 6 weeks sounds about right. That should be clear when the scan is in hand.

i thought "chris armas" as soon as i saw it. it looked like exactly the same planting of the foot and forceful bending backward of the knee. i thought "6 months."
6 weeks would be a relief! we'll see.

Just found this pic. Was taken when Casey joined Borussia Dortmund (along with Jan-Derek Sörensen of Rosenborg Trondheim).

Didn't know what thread to use for this foto and so took the first Casey-thread in this forum.

back on topic:
anybody knows what the mri results were? what is the nature of the injury and when will he be back. was the speculation of 6 weeks accurate?

FWIW, I've seen that type landing result in a PCL injury. The player, following the conservative recovery option, recovered via phys. rehab, no surgery was required. Took a bit longer than 6 weeks...but not much longer.

kicker had an article on this matter yesterday. In the US they diagnosed a torn muscle and after his return to Mainz they found that he just suffers under a pulled muscle in the thigh and a bruise at the ankle. He resumed the running units on Sunday and joins the team training on Thursday.

way to get out of this week's u.s. scrimmages and join your team early casey. actually its a pleasant turn of luck for a change.
