During the game today on ESPN they showed that the population of Grenada was around 90thousand and then later Rob Stone said something like half of the Grenadan population will be at the game(45thousand). According to this website

http://www.worldstadiums.com/middle_america/countries/grenada.shtml

that might create a bit of a safety problem for the players and fans considering that the stadiums are so small.

p.s. 9,137 was anounced at the game in Columbus

It's going to have the feel of a WCQ atmosphere. This will raise energy of the players and make for an AWESOME scene. I can't wait.

I think Rob was exaggerating a bit about half the population, because that's asking for a deadly tragedy, but I'm sure they can fit more than the stated capacity.

The soccer game next week was moved from the 8,000 seat soccer stadium to the 15,000 seat cricket grounds, due to a high demand for tickets. Is your picture from the soccer or cricket stadium?

Looks like a cricket ground to me.

Looks like a cricket ground to me.Maybe that's why they're playing cricket on it in the picture.
I have a felling that's an easy venue to increase capacity.
Just look at the area in the bottom of the pic' where the video camera is, for example.

Well, at least the boys won't have to worry about dodging Nutmeg thrown from the stands. Look at the distance!!!

they will probably bring in portable high-school-football-like bleacher that can be easily moved. Hopefully not out of wood because they might start a fire if they score a goal.

He said a quarter to a third, which would be 22-30K. So he exaggerated, but not that much.

Just FYI, but the image above is of Grenada's National Stadium, not their cricket ground. Take a look at the following photo and you can see this:

http://www.stadionwelt.de/Stadionwelt-Stadien-Arenen/Stadionlisten/Stadionlisten-Sonstige_Stadien/Nationalstadion_Grenada/Nationalstadion_Grenada.jpg

Total capacity is/was 15,000.

Not much I would think. Just a big concrete bowl with no real overhangs or roofs, right?

Magpie: Are you sure, I thought the same thing but the hills in the backgroud look like those at the Cricket stadium. Either way, they are in a tough postion, there is no way they can afford to rebuild either without help. FIFA that means you!
