"The remnants of Atlanta's soccer past live on elsewhere, and thrive. One of South Africa's most popular and successful teams, the Kaizer Chiefs, were founded and are still run by Kaizer Motaung, who was the NASL rookie of the year for the Atlanta Chiefs in 1968. And the youth soccer programs begun by Chiefs players and coaches have mushroomed far beyond their in-town roots, yielding suburban stars like 2002 U.S. World Cup players Clint Mathis and Josh Wolff."

The Atlanta Journal Constitution implies that the Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa received their nickname from the NASL's Atlanta Chiefs because their owner played for them. So can a team outside of NY, or outside of the US, freely use the name "Cosmos"?

Isn't there a team in South Africa called Jomo Cosmos named for and run by former Cosmo Jomo Sono?

On this date.....

1995 - The US overwhelms Japan 4-0 in Gavle, Sweden in the FIFA Women's World Cup behind two goals by Kristine Lilly.
2001 - At 16 years, 242 days, DC United's Santino Quaranta becomes the youngest player ever to start an MLS game when he lines up for the opening kick against the MetroStars. Freddy Adu would break the mark in 2004 at age 14.

I think every coach that takes himself seriously ought to go out and read this book, of for nothing more, for this:

""It’s my life in soccer, from when I was 5 all the way up to now and each stage and what I did, how I was coached and in many ways how I wasn’t coached, just out playing by myself," Reyna said. "It’s a book not only for kids but coaches, as well — for anyone into soccer. You see through my experiences how I got where I got."

A quick check of http://www.dispatch.com/default.php?story=dispatch/indexes/sportsindex-main.php shows you if there is a new Crew story in the Dispatch. Don't bother of clicking on any stories, you will have to sign in/pay. Then, right click on a link and select Properties. Then copy and paste the story=" " part into this: http://www.1460thefan.com/tf.php?story=

Pretty difficult, right? But that's the only way for us to get Crew news around here.

"The team that scores the most goals advances to the semifinal round of qualifying"

This would be an interesting way of deciding who advances.
