The City of Ottawa is starting public consultations on the Lansdowne Live proposal, which include a new CFL stadium. If this sole-sourced proposal goes ahead I think it is the end of the hunt for MLS in Ottawa. If you want to see MLS in Ottawa, please get out and tell councilors that you do not support Lansdowne Live and that you want them to support Eugene Melnyk's soccer-specific stadium in Kanata.

The planned sessions are:
Monday, September 28, 6 to 9 p.m.
Lansdowne Park, Salon A
1015 Bank Street

Tuesday, September 29, 6 to 9 p.m.
Ron Maslin Playhouse, Lobby
1 Ron Maslin Way, Kanata

Wednesday, September 30, 6 to 9 p.m.
Ottawa City Hall, Jean Pigott Place
110 Laurier Avenue West

Thursday, October 1, 6 to 9 p.m.
Jim Durrell Complex, Elwood Hall
1265 Walkley Road

Monday, October 5, 6 to 9 p.m.
Tom Brown Arena, Hall
141 Bayview Road

Tuesday, October 6, 6 to 9 p.m.
Shenkman Arts Centre, Lower Lobby
245 Centrum Boulevard, Orléans

Also starting Sept. 28, the city will be soliciting comments and discussion through its ottawa.ca (http://ottawa.ca/) website.

I want MLS here, much more the USL obviously.

But I just can't in good conscience go out there and argue against Lansdowne Live.

I feel it's a good plan, but it'd be like me kicking my own left nut to hopefully benefit my right nut. Now i love my right nut better.. but noone likes getting bagged.

I feel sorry for you. At least I believe that Lansdowne Live is a lousy plan, so I will have no trouble arguing against it. There is nowhere near enough parking, inadequate road infrastructure and so much retail that it will swamp the Glebe. 1,000 less parking spaces than there were in the past and an extra 408,000 sq ft of retail to compete with the stadium for the remaining spaces.

And don't get me started on a sole-source procurement of a development of this size.

It's been a football stadium for 60 years, and there never was enough parking and the same road infrastructure. But that never stopped me from getting there.

You need to stop listening to Clive. He'll have you believing all 400,000 of that are tiny boutique stores ready to destroy the glebe.

There is 408,000sq ft of Commercial space not 408,000sq ft of Retail space.

There is 295,000sq ft of Retail space planned. (The other 100,000+ is Office space)

the farmer's market (16,000sq ft)
the pavilion - 3 restaurants (36,000sq ft)
a cinema - which the glebe does not have atleast not a modern one, The Mayfair plays arthouse.
the shops and other restaurants - atleast one of those rest being in the stadium

And don't get me started on a sole-source procurement of a development of this size.

Yes please don't, cause it's going to be as tired as the first fifty times i heard someone on CFRA say it. This is what a P3 looks like.

As a stadium location it made perfect sense in 1909 when I believe the first one was built on that site. However, as you say there was never enough parking and now there is going to be half of that. Bank Street is only getting busier. At some point in the future, we will have some form of rapid transit, but it will never go to Lansdowne, so we will always need car access.

Let's not condemn the city to having a stadium in a lousy location for the next 70 years, or however long a Minto-built stadium would last.

Ottawa could not even support an average CFL team..so talk about a MLS franchise is absurd..get the stadium revitalization completed first, secondly secure a USL franchise and thirdly a CFL team that will survive in this contemptuous enviroment...until then, politicians will watse alot of time and money with their latest consultations....USL in 2012 at th earliest when Van and Port have moved up.

All those who think that USL-1 will be worth watching at Lansdowne should have been watching the New England-New York MLS game tonight.

A small crowd in a big stadium, with the pale yellow soccer lines on the fake pitch completely washed out by the bright white football grid lines. You can't even see where the penalty area and the side lines are. For the marginal soccer fan, the whole thing is unwatchable.

No wonder New York are only averaging just over 12,000.

Lansdowne is not a big stadium..what 26-28000 max...it is small and as there really are no other ideas being supported, who cares...if they can be viable who cares where they play or how small the crowd is or how big the park looks...it all comes down to being in the black.

I just love how some toronto people bring up this city can not support a cfl team so they can't support a mls team.Yet right in troonto the lynx did not draw well the bluejays and argoes do not do great attendance wise and this list goes on.
