Good news I think :)
Free transfer, Premier League experience, captain of his club and country (I think he's captain of Australia), more depth in multiple positions, knocked back his wage demands from the awful 70+ K a week to a much more reasonable 40 K. Plus he's on a year contract with an option to extend for 3 more years.
Quite happy with that, but I think he still can't play in the Europa League until January (if we make it there).

He's a good defender when he's not in the Physio's Room.

Gets into the cards way too much for me, but he's still a solid defender. Good leader on the field too.

We have a lot of players who collect the cards. For me I don't mind them getting booked as long as they're not silly bookings for dissent or kicking out at people. Neill could be just what we need to replace what Neville gives us, as it's now come to light that Neville will be out til Christmas after damaging his Posterior Cruciate.

good news for everton, i think.
1. neville's only out til christmas.
2. considering he's free and accepted lower wages, neill should be a good fill in for multiple positions (like neville).
moyes continues to work well given the circumstances.

Tis' captain of our fine nation.... yet has proved he is a money hungry fool over the past few months. Iv'e personally lost a lot of respect for him but if he's finally accepted nobody is gonna pay such ridiculous wages then he should do well for you.
He will give away the odd penalty, and murder any animals unfortunate enough to share the field during game time;)

He broke Jamie Carragher's leg so he's alright for me ;)

Carragher also wrote in his biography that he was going to get some of his scouse mates from school to jump Neill in Manchester a couple years ago(after he broke his leg)
So the merseyside derbies will have be even more spicier this season:D

Another an established and experienced international player keen to impress in a World Cup year,
A free transfer carries little risk, I'm sure there are younger better players out there but as the bank accounts are running low I don't think we could do much better in the circumstances,

Glad to have him and his experience. With our injury record, we can't have enough cover right now.

Neill adds a bit of an "edge" to the defense that I think we need.
Jags and Baines are solid players, but are undersized for defenders. And while Yobo is pretty tall and strong, he doesn't play a physical game.
A guy like Neill can intimidate the opposition a bit, and make them look over their shoulder when they should be concentrating 100% on their own play.

Just as long as he doesn't get himself sent off!
Heitnga is another who brings with him a reputation for picking up yellows, but he feels he was victimised by referees in Spain (much like Fellaini last season)
That said I think we have one of the best, if not the best disciplinary records this season.
