I'm thinking about getting started in this. My friend is willing to buy all the supplies as long as I commit to play. Mind you neither of us knows anything about table soccer other than what we saw in "Fever Pitch" - the movie. What are we in for?

Okay,
1) It will be tricky at first
2) Its sort of like golf. you get upset with yourself for screwing up shots
3) You might travel a bit to play in a tournament
4) You get addicted
5) You spend more money on "professional" equipment.
6) You get better with each week playing
7) You join the mailing list and learn a lot of cool stuff
8) You meet some pretty cool people, and some dorky ones ;)
9) Its a nice hobby that is sports related.
10) West Ham will continue to disappoint you on the pitch (real or otherwise)
Hope that helps

11) There will be somebody you play who will beat you at least the first 30-50 times you play - keep trying.

El Toro,
Where do you live? There may be a good chance there are other players in or near your area. PM me if you want or send an email to the address listed earlier in this thread.
To tell you what you are in for, is a challenging but crazy game. There is ALWAYS something to improve upon which makes this game fun and bringing you back for more.

Nice reply panicfc, very thorough and very correct, although writered's amendment was a good one.
Let us know where you are, El Toro. We can hook you up with a local player and then you can see the game as it is played.

The recreation of RvN's goal is sick. What do you think...was it a foul? ;)

Never saw the original. Describe it in real soccer terms for those who didn't?

I used to play Subbuteo alone when I was a kid ... I have practically never played with somebody else ... I had the Stadium edition and I remember repainting the teams to my linking (I think they're called zombie teams) ... I still have all that stuff minus the board.
Well, I am in the Boston area if someone wants to play friendly games with a beginner.

Holy crap!
We've got a new club starting on the Northshore of Boston. Send me a PM and I'll get you there emails. One guy is one of the top players in the US, the other guy is a beginner as well.
Plus we have a big club in Connecticut.

My question about subbuteo is, wether you play it 1 on 1 only, or can you play with more players as well?
Further, Does anyone have the newest streaker version already? and the police going along with it: http://www.vi.nl/images2/5/6/1/1992554669_1999999483_SubbuteoStreaker_192_221.jpg
The source says it is an add to the game. A player can ask for the streaker. The streaker enters the 16 mtr box. The opponent then has to hit the streaker in an attack, with his police. When hit, the streaker is arrested. However, if the streaker won't be hit for 4 times at 4 different places of the field, it will be called a full streak. The streaker then can get back in the public and used again later. It could be a good trick to distract the opponent when he's in the zone. Anyone who uses it?

I've heard about the figures, and I have to admit I like the idea of distracting them with this streaker. I may have to get a few ;)

Forgot to add: I've heard of 2v2 matches, but never played in one.
