That won't happen. Tymo has been invaluable since MvB's injury and suspension, a real leader on the pitch and crucial to our defensive and offensive game.

Yes, and when MvB's back to his job, why not allow Mueller to play in his original position, striker. Other than Klose, he'd fit in 433 than toni/gomez.

Van Gaal told him to play that way btw, not him. And he said he accepted the role no problem.

That doesn't excuse him when he loses the ball then does not track back to regain it. And I'm sure van Gaal didn't tell him to play 60% effort either.

Anyway, I hope this changes this season because I actually think he's got good potential for a #6.

I wouldn't mind seeing the "diamond" moved forward:

--------------Shaky Goalie------------- (1)
--------------Shaky Defense------------ (4)
----------Double 6 (Tymo, MvB)--------- (2)
--------------Mueller/Olic------------- (1)
------Holland ------------France------- (2)
-----------Gomez/Klose/Toni------------ (1)

Was just able to watch the 2nd half at home on a real TV (in HD no less). Don't know if anyone has mentioned it here, or if you could see it on the streams, but the pitch was EXTREMELY wet. In fact, it appeared that none of the players could really play at speed for fear of falling. Looked like everyone was having to take "baby steps" around the pitch and couldn't really open it up. Was painfully obvious that the emphasis was placed on stability and uprightness rather than on speed. I think this fact alone severely hampered Robbery's effectiveness tonight. Speed kills. They couldn't play at speed.

And for those of you that have played the game in wet conditions, you know that balls played on the ground are difficult to control proper pace. And balls in the air come down and skid rather than bounce. Having now watched the game where I could actually see it, I really think the conditions played more of a role in this than I first thought. I also think that the poor conditions make Butt's performance even more impressive. He made some KEY saves along the way.

Just my €2! (To coin a phrase from the Eissman...)

I agree that he should of went back a few times today and 1-2 other times last game. I think it's because of fatigue imo, which is fair considering he played 75' or so both NT games. I hope he gets rested in the DFB game and Ottl :S plays over him. His play will keep decreasing if he keeps over doing it. I think if he is rested to a good degree, he can become a solid "6". After all, he's starting to play a different position (again.....), so he needs a bit of time to adapt and understand how much he should attack or defend.

I am also starting to see Lahm play better at the right. He made a brilliant chance for Olic and then made another assist which Olic scored but was wrongly called off-sides for. Keep improving mofo. My fear is that if Van G wants to buy a LB this summer, there are hardly as many quality ones as RBs. That's why I hope Lahm plays on the left and Raf/Bosi gets bought by the time summer ends.

I think this is very good analysis for why Ribery/Robben had trouble. Must spread more....

Gotta love van Gaal:

"I think we played an excellent first half, but we didn't score. In the second half we lost too many balls and then the organization went missing. So I fixed that and we started scoring."

:D

I just finished watching the game.... had a middle school clash away and didn't have a chance to watch the match.

The quote above by LvG could NOT have summed the game up any better really. He makes no excuses for the wet pitch, for the errant and complacent passing by Bayern that opened the 2nd half, but instead jumps straight into what needs improving.... AND... goes ahead and fixes it with results! I am starting to love this guy!!! (I may have to make up a batch of LvG-aide! ;))

We completely dominated the first half but clearly had trouble finding the final pass. LvG made exactly the right substitutions and young Mueller was the recipient of the final goals yet again. Cheers for Thomas!

I see some chat about Tymo and Schweini... in the 1st half they absolutely controlled the match. I was quite impressed with Schweini as I think he just simply looks soo much more comfortable in that middle role. Tymo is amazing at simply one thing... doing whatever it takes to keep possession... he slides passes often last minute when it looks as though he will lose it in the tackle, pushing the ball just enough to keep it. In the 2nd half, they both got a touch complacent, as well as the back line... and to Haifa's credit, their step up in pressure made things hectic for a while. I agree with Van Gaal, Haifa will be a problem for others in the group when they play in Israel.

Might I add one last thing... the coverage on Direct TV in High Definition was absolutely spectacular!!! Eye-popping HD nearly all match. The worst part was when the amazing sound of the game was finally interrupted with the commentary, which was about 20 minutes late in arriving. I would have much preferred to watch it without.
Cheers to Direct TV!!!

Final comment on Tymo after reading more on page 25...

Tymo did his job well tonight, and that is to be the simple link from the two CB's and LB/RB's to midfield, and from his deep lying role in midfield to Schweini and Mueller, and every-so-often to the target forward from his deep position. That is in attack. In defense he destroys, shepherds, challenges, duels. And does so quite well.

Ottl, part deux? Give me a flippin break. That is giving Ottl entirely too much credit. LMAO!!!

When MVB is healthy, Tymo will be the one who will hopefully be allowed to support Schweini and MVB from his deeper midfield role, and this will finally hopefully take MVB off his weakest role as destroyer. He is not one, but a player who likes to support and get into the attack as well as have a go from 30 yards on occasion.

I personally am excited to see the potential formation with Tymo, MVB, and Schweini.
The only problem is young Mueller is starting to have a say in the matter with his own performances!

Good luck sorting it out LvG.... it is, after all, a nice problem to have! :D

Didn't catch the game but just saw the highlights of the goals. Based on what I've read in the thread it seems that the first half was a disaster and Butt actually kept us in the game. But in true Bayern fashion, we got it done it the 2nd half. All in all great start to this season's CL campaign.:D
Actually I think that in the first half we were very good ;)

@ M.Haifa>>>>Definitely repped! Thanks for sharing the awesome vids!!

@ Eissman>>>>re: DirectTV coverage. Picture was great but commentary was lacking I thought. And what was one KEY item missing from their coverage on-screen?

A freakin' match clock!! Somebody pls put a clock on the screen next time!!

But, otherwise, a very special treat to be able to watch FCB in HD. First time I've been able to see them in HD I believe. Sure beats the streams when you can't even make out who scores a goal!!
