So that's how Activision's going to be? Dave Grohl, Courtney Love, and Krist Novoselic agreed to have Kurt Cobain's likeness used for Nirvana songs on Guitar Hero 5. At least, that's what they thought they were agreeing to. The dirty scum at Activision hid their agenda with the words "fully playable character" in the contract. Seeing Kurt's image used on Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" is quite possibly the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Kurt would've been COMPLETELY against this considering his hatred for anything mainstream. His counter-culture personality would've probably even been against seeing his image used for only Nirvana songs on this game, but I understand that Courtney's probably bankrupt and needs all the money she can get.

If the video on this link doesn't make you sick, you have strong intestinal fortitude or you don't know who Kurt was or what he stood for:

The blame for this, as always, lies with Love and her advisors. Shift your e-hate onto the right person.

I completely agree that blame does rest on Love as well, however, when has she ever made good decisions in life? Activision should have realized they were messing with an imbecile and worded the contract more to her liking(complete with misspelling and incorrect grammer heh kidding). I've had so much faith in Activision doing these guitar hero games because they seemed to do them right, but after watching the video seeing Kurt sing those songs just seems so wrong to me. I'm sure most people who love rock music would see that too. Activision's decision makers should've realized that and only put his likeness on the Nirvana songs.

When he "committed suicide" he wrote that he hated the fame and how grunge had become a "thing" instead of an artistic movement. Cobain was an artist and appreciated artists who created for love of music and not for love of money. The Beatles were artists(moreso towards the end of their career) and controlled their fate... not huge faceless corporations that view music as a commodity and not an art form.

Kurt did NOT hate anything mainstream, unless you want to argue that the Beatles weren't mainstream.

Ok, he didn't hate anything mainstream, but he was not a fan of big corporations that treat artists like they are cattle being herded to slaughter. Lots of corporations grind musicians through the system like they're meaningless. He was completely against that.

What's the big deal? He's dead.

Slash as a playable character on GH3 could play any of the other songs also.

Besides, everyone knows Courtney Love had him snuffed out. El Duce from The Mentors even said so. Duh. ;)

Blame is on Love and co. simple as. She agreed to this thinking she could probably make money off it, but she was stupid enough not to do full research. As soon as Activision came to her with the proposal, she should have known what their intentions were. Doesn't sound like it was a long discussion at all, just a paper contract and a signature and the promise of plenty of residuals. Must have made her mouth water.

Do we really need two threads about this? (it's over in the video games forum too).

It's time to get over it. You can play as Johnny Cash too, where's the outrage for that? Now, had Cobain ended an encore by blowing his head off then yeah it might be tasteless, but it's not.

Agreed and quite frankly screw Love. I can't stand her. What a pathetic excuse for a human being. Go back to your drug induced stupor Courtney.

This.

The idea that Nirvana was some little grunge band that became hugely popular completely against their own will is one of the most persistent myths in modern pop culture. They (and that includes Kurt) got exactly what they wanted in selling millions of records. Now, if you want to argue that Kurt couldn't handle the fame, then I'd probably agree, but if Nirvana never wanted to become as big as they were, there had several occasions on the road to success where they could've easily pulled the plug themselves.

It's not tasteless, it's just weird. But that is coming from someone who finds the popularity of the entire Guitar Hero series weird. I just don't get the appeal.

"Couldn't handle the fame" - that phrase boggles the mind. Yeah - going from playing in front of a bartender & his dog in dive bars for years, living out of a Buick, collecting recyclables to buy Taco Bell and then having one blockbuster album and instant celebrity...that must be rough.

People are what they are. Look at the lottery winners who piss it all away. If Kurt was a miserable fcuker in the late 80s, he didn't really change all that much by the early 90s.

lol Kurt did a favor to Rock n Roll in killing himself!!

who cares if Kurts in GH5 he sold out cashing his first 100,000 thousand dollar check from his second cd or third cd, which ever they blow up on.........

Kids that worship a loser like Kurt dont understand how much they(nirvana) damaged rock music...glad to see him getting corporately raped...especially by his "loved" ones.

MTV = Selling out (if your grunge band.)

so stop crying....:)

That's the kind of absurd nonsense only uttered by those who think anyone making an honest living from his music is a fraud. Nirvana did not hurt music. Music started dying with the fourth generation of manufactured pop from the mid-to-late 90s.

^^^ Cobain is NOT responsible for Creed or Nickleback.
