In my opinion Beckham is very overated. He isn't that fast or smart when it comes to playing. He just makes a good pass and free kick every now and then.

Becknam is a great "kicker of the ball" rather than a great footballer, and, whilst he is extremely good, is very overrated, particularily by those who associate fame with ability. I think Freddie Adu needs a mention too, due to the number of people who are so over excited about a 14 year old who, whilst very skilfull, has acheived nothing yet, and still holds onto the ball far too long. People elsewhere were even suggesting listing him as the best under 21 in the world, when he's not even best U21 in the US!
I also think Henrik Larsson is overrated, as his remarkable acheivements at Celtic are so far from performing on the biggest stage, he just seems to have a total lack of ambition. I hasten to add that I do not think these guys are anything but superb players, they just have not shown that extra level to put them where people seem to think they are in the overall scale of things.

Adu is overrated since he hasn't done anything yet.
I watched Larsson twice on memory (UEFA cup, WC 2002) and he didn't stcik with me
In some ways Landon Donovan is overated since he can't finish realy at all, he only scores garbage goals and doesn't create that much.

Beckham isn't overrated as a player, he's overrated as a personality. He's a very good player, but he's been let down this year by Real's bizarre insistence on not playing a true defensive midfielders despite starting three midfielders who generally treat defense like an ugly whore.
Before Real's entire season fell apart, Beckham was playing quite well in the "Pirlo" role for Milan. His workrate is also pretty good. I'd be thrilled if Chelsea bought him.

He'll probably end up in Chelsea in a few years

Unlikely. In a few years he'll be over 30, and we'll have no need for him. We're buying a RM one way or another this year. If he doesn't come this year, he's unlikely to come at all.

I bet it end up back at ManU, Chelsea, Juventes, or another Italian club. I seriously think he'll be in the U.S. by 2011.

That would be cool to see him play in the U.S. someday I could see that happening due to Money and him most likely being able to play in the MLS as an older player and still be good. Adu is overated considering he has not proved himself as of yet.

Gerrard always chokes when the stakes are high (penalty against Fullham in game 37) he shouldn't be praisd as a great player.

 Is that why England still haven't figured out how to lose when he's in the lineup?

And Ruud...master of tap ins....he cant shoot from long range and plays averige for his country
But my 1 overrated player is Kluivert! Holland did not qualify for the 2002 worldcup because of his 'Pe torto' ...bad shooting!

Yeah all Ruud does is tap in goals and he is constantly offsides or off the pitch

Yea TxT, there is no way that Gerrard is overrated, like nicephoras said, England is yet to lose while he has been on the pitch, and look what he's done for LFC this past year, in now way is Stevie G overrated.

I find myself in agreement with one of the RS, which is very unusually. Stevie is amazing.

A year ago, I would say Beckham is both overrated and underrated depending how you look at him.
Yes, he is overrated. he is an icon. He is nowhere near the top 10 players in the world. He can only cross the ball and kick freekicks. Anything else he is just average.
But he is also underrated because everyone who knows football thinks Beckham sucks. The truth.... he can cross the ball and kick freekicks very well. Whenever MU or England got a freekick or corner kick, the fans got excited because of him. They know he can send a beautiful cross into the box. It does not matter whether he can do anything else. England and MU are dangerious with him.
