In my mind the most underrated playeris Ailton for Werder Bremen (not for long). He can do everything but his appearance probably turns the power clubs off.

What does everyone else think?????

I would like to see what he can do in the Champions League because I don't think he is that great. He scored way more goals at home than on the road and it would be an interesting test for him in the CL. I could be wrong. He should get a call up to the national side for his achievements though.

I'm having trouble trying to come up with someone else though........How about Samuel Eto'o of Real Mallorca.

No one really talks about him being one of the best strikers in la liga. Brought down Real Madrid himself this year.

David Pizarro, brought almost by himself Udinese to the UEFA cup, get the brazillians crazy last weekend when he played against them for Chile in the Sudamerican WC qualifiers. Really good with the ball in his feet. Kind of (with all respect for D10S) Maradona style, but without the speed. Wanted by Inter and Juventus for next season

It depends on what you mean by under rated. Alexander Xleb (sp) at Stuttgart could be called underrated. I wouldn't because I feel the reason he's not rated higher is that he's so young. It takes time to get recognized for being great.

Joseba Exteberria. everyone and their dog goes on and on about Joaquin and how great he is and is going to be, but this guy has been starting over him in the spain NT on aregular basis. He gets no recognition at all, but he is one of the best wingers in Spain and has been for quite awhile now.

I have to say...

Fernando Torres is the most underrated player.

Anyone agree?

Paul Scholes, even though he's been slightly more recognised recently. Now some fools try to say he is overrated, this is a sign of how underrated he actually is. Sheer quality, by far the best English midfielder of the late nineties and early noughties, only now is Gerrard beginning to push a claim to be better. Best young Man U midfielder of the nineties too, better than Becksm Giggs and Butt.
Thought the last of these is another example of a severly underrated player
Also G. Neville, I struggle to think of a better right back anywhere.

He and Stefano Fiore would be my top two nominees.

The "Paul Scholes is underrated" was beyond even my remarkable powers.

Deco.

Check out Gabriel Marcotti's all Champions League team as just one example - doesn't even make the team http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/gabriele_marcotti/05/26/marcotti.insider/index.html. Try finding a serious discussion about his abilities on BS other than in the Portugal forum....the man is largely ignored, yet may be the most effective playmaker over the past 24 months (for sure the playmaker with the most silverware in that timeframe).

Gianluca Zambrotta, Marco Di Vaio..

I agree on Zambrotta, who I think is actually the best left back in the game, but DiVaio? I don't think he's underrated at all.
