Did we all miss this when first reported?
The president of Sevilla takes a swipe at Reyes (http://www.foxsportsworld.com/content/view?contentId=2289148) after he leaves the club.
"What's more, and speaking as a supporter, I say that [Reyes] is not worth half of what [Arsenal] have given us for him," said del Nido.
WTF? Was he trying to save face for his financially troubled club, or what? That seems pretty low, and a harsh way to treat your transfer customer.
Imagine if IKEA told you as you walked out with your new floor lamp purchase, "You got gypped, dude." (:o, no offense intended for our brand new "Gypsy King.")

wow, that's very unprofessional~ even if he believes it to be true, who is to benefit from this talk to the press?
strange days indeed...

If any regular feels sure that this board made note of this back in April, I'd be intersted in reading the discussion. Please PM if I can find the thread on BS.

I remember reading about it, but I can't remember if it was here or somewhere else. But yes it is certainly a slap in the face. It's one thing if you believe that it's true, but to actually come out and say it to the press. I'm really not sure why anyone would do that. Almost makes me wonder if he was frustrated in the fact of the way he left. Maybe he thought Reyes liked his new club a little too much. But I certainly don't buy the excusses of him actually liking respecting Reyes. If he really did he wouldn't have said what he did to the press. I personally think Reyes has great potential and I expect great things from him in the future.
I know some people will question what he was able to do at Arsenal this season but some on. I doubt much was expected by many people when Henry came over to Arsenal and look at him now. Now I'm not saying Reyes will be the next Henry or anything. But I do think he will contribute more next year and will continue becoming a better player.
I hope Reyes uses the article as motivation to prove him wrong.

Is anyone unhappy w/what Reyes has done for us?? I know he has exceeded my relatively small expectations... he's got at least 2 full seasons to prove his worth... at least...

I just remember a few people thinking Reyes wasn't worth the money earlier in the year. I remember posting and trying to tell whoever it was to give him a chance, he's still young.
Even Henry was young and I'm sure there were a lot of people who never expected to see him become the player he has.

I think that the discussion went on in ManU's forum but also that MotterMan may have posted the quote... I remember a thread with the quote...

There had to be one over here, because I've never posted on their board. Now maybe it was a Man U fan over here. But I had thought there was at least one Arsenal fan who thought he wasn't worth with what we paid for him. I also remember someone saying something about that they were disappointed that Reyes hadn't done more at that point in the season. At that point he hadn't scored in the EPL.

Ok.. see where u are comming from... there would certainly have been a MUFC fan or 2 over here to chat about it/gloat... im pretty sure i weighed in over here.. just to refresh my memory how much did Reyes cost?
Cuz at the time, i felt that yall had indeed overpaid... not for talent, but for your financial position I felt that a proven player w/ more experience and costing a bit less would have been more responsible... of course his play next season will justify his price or make Wenger a little regretful... for what its worth I completely understand the way you guys will feel about it... you think he has already shown he is worth the money...
Me... I feel the same about CRonaldo... well, no.. a bit different... I feel that for what he did the last 5/6 months of the season I would have seen no problem w/ him costing 25million... ie. what we got for Becks... his crosses may not be as accurate, but his overall play in that position creates more scoring chances...
For you guys you probably see Reyes as the typical Arsenal player, good passing, fast, good shooting, to add to your group of talented players and replace someone like DB...
on that note I have a question.. would u guys be opposed to this...
--------------Henry
----Reyes---
---------------Pires-----Freddy
----------Edu
--------------Viera
Personally that for me is scary... w/ Reyes/Pires/Freddy, you have 3 people to make runs and support Henry w/ the scoring load and Reyes would be playing in his natural role, that of Left Wing... he really is not an out an out striker/forward... from my friends on the Spanish boards it seems he is like an Overmars type player. If u get an upgrade for Freddy, or another CM u could play Pires on the Right or play your new RW... either way it will take an excellent defence to stop Arsenal last year... thankfully We have one... :)

That would be Ruff Ryder. I got a little annoyed with him for saying that. This was, of course, before he scored against Fulham and, more notably, at Portsmouth to maintain our unbeaten streak. I'll see if I can find the thread.

I honestly don't remember how much we paid for him. But the posts I remember seeing happened well after Reyes had come here. I don't there were posts stating Reyes sucks or anything like that. I just remember people thinking he wasn't worth the money we had paid and that they were disappointed with what they had seen of him at that point of the season. I do remember that it was before he had scored a goal in the EPL.

Basically, but I also remember another thread. Because I got pissed and actually responded to it. But yes that is sort of the same feeling I remember a few people having.

Sounds to me like the Sevilla president is trying to win some favour with the fans of the club for selling their most promising player by making out he got a great deal on the transfer. Nothing more than that.
Reyes looks to me like he has all the attributes to be a success at Arsenal. It remains to be seen which position he will end up in, but I reckon he'll be a regular in the first eleven by Christmas.

This is old news, he said this right after the Boro game in the Carling cup.
Bet Reyes's end of season form shut him up.. ;)

But of course, del Niro is such an amazing judge of talent.
Well everyone knows what an amazing and legendary footballer del Niro was...oh, wait. ;)
I hope I communicated the scathing sarcasm appropriately.

If you hold del Niro to that, you have to hold Wenger to that as well. Just because you aren't a great player doesn't make you a great mind. Just saying that that isn't a solid argument.

How unprofessional - he should've taken much less from Manchester United so we could have him! He's a future star, for sure... He an Christiano Ronaldo would have been a great pairing for us... Congrats to you

Who crapped in Mr. del Niro's tapas? What an unprofessional little tosser!!! I hope Reyes is a stud for Arsenal just so he can shove up del Niro's bum!
