If nothing else, Ellen probably has a better understanding of trends within the industry and a better eye for what the audience is looking for. That, and she'd be a much better counterbalance against Simon than Paula ever was.
Plus, people like her and there's probably a decent overlap between the audiences of the two shows.

I like Ellen.
I've never watched any of her shows but I've always thought she was a decent stand up and her Am Ex commercials were funny. Plus she seems pretty damn normal.
I think she'll give honest opinions without the bullshit of the three other loons. That was my hope for the other woman, Kara?, but she turned out to be as self absorbed of a camera hog as the others.
