They've announced the U-17 roster whose going to branderton for residency, and some players are coming from MLS youth systems.

Do their MLS Clubs lose their claim on them, or can they still take them as a home grown player in the future?

They still retain the rights... don't worry, LA have the MLS rights to Gonzalez still. :) However, I think he's free to sign with a foreign club as all MLS youth players are since they aren't under contract. You also missed out on a Columbus Crew youth player on that list and possibly a player that's listed as playing for the "MS Chicago Fire Juniors." Can someone with Fire connections confirm, deny, or even wildly speculate on whether this is affiliated with the Fire as if it was their own youth team? It'd be interesting to see... There could be clubs that could benefit from a similar setup. LA or Chivas could set up a team in San Diego, DC could set up a team in the Va Beach/Norfolk/Hampton Roads area, etc.

Per: http://www.mississippifirejr.com/ClubInformation/ChicagoFireJuniorsofMississippi/tabid/1653/Default.aspx

Chicago Fire Soccer and Mississippi United Soccer Club announce a partnership that establishes the fourth branch of the Fire Youth Development Program's official youth club system, Chicago Fire Juniors of Mississippi.

With the agreement, the Fire has again expanded its youth development program outside the Chicagoland area, this time into the state of Mississippi, a first for any Major League Soccer organization. Chicago Fire Juniors of Mississippi will model itself after other existing Chicago Fire Youth Development Program expansions in the states of Michigan (CFJ - West Michigan) and Wisconsin (CFJ - Elm Grove).

I was just curious how it would work out.. the last young Branderton residency player named Gonzalez the Galaxy picked up didn't work out so well......

if that's case why doesnt every mls team set up a team in california? that's where the majority of these guys are coming from. i thought mls acadamy teams can only have players that reside within a 75 mile radius. teams in large markets benefit.

That's what I thought as well... But in fairness to the Mississippi thing, maybe MLS allows special circumstances since the entire southeast is unrepresented.

I believe there are territories assigned to MLS teams, I think RSL was going to start up one outside of Utah, but I could be wrong..

Teams are allowed to be affiliated with teams across the country but can only have players with 75 miles (larger for KC and RSL due to smaller population density) on their academy teams. An interview regarding the New Orleans Chicago Fire team revealed that they were hoping to bypass this limit by bringing players from affiliated clubs in to local boarding schools within 75 miles.

Very informative interview:

RSL has academies in Utah, Arizona, and Florida.
