SHOCK WARNING: I hope you're right.
My brother played baseball at Texas. He was recruited as a catcher but then was told by Coach Garrido he didn't have the tools to play the position. So he requested a release in order to transfer to a school where he could play catcher. Garrido wouldn't give it to him. After several months of bitter wrangling, UT's AD granted him the release. So he transfers to - get this - Texas A&M. A&M immediately makes him their starting catcher. The first three times he goes up to bat again Texas that season, he's nailed in the backside. But it was all good in the end- A&M went to the College World Series that year and my brother made 3rd team All-American.
So I bleed orange- except when it comes to baseball.

TWUB, you so funny.
Vanderbilt will reprise the Ned Beatty role in Deliverance.

Interesting story, GringoTex. Your blind spot for the rest of the UT athletics department will be your undoing. Is there any chance Vince Young leaves early to become a Ralph Lauren model like that other UT QB?
El Jefe, right movie, wrong character. Vanderbilt is Burt Reynolds.

Should be fun and exciting in SoCal where both Long Beach State and Cal St. Fullerton host Super Regionals. I shouldn't be surprised that the 49ers swept the Stanford Regional but I'm more impressed that the Titans absolutley rolled through their doubleheader to advance. Here's hoping the Titans make it again.

Sure thing, Ned.
By the way, I think that a Vandy pitcher just coughed up another run.

Best two out of three, Timmay. Sunday, Bloody Sunday is coming for the Horns. Vanderbilt just wants Texas to get overconfident. Prepare for the smackdown!!!

Cal State Fullerton blanks Tulane 9-0 in Game 1 and needs to win tomorrow to advance.

Damn, damn, damn.
Serious question: With all of Texas' resources, why do they have that crappy astroturf field?

My wife and I went to the last game of the Palo Alto Regional (Stanford v. LBSU) one week ago. LBSU seemed like an impressive team, with two hot starting pitchers (Weaver and Ramos), but still didn't seem better overall than the Cardinal, who picked the last two games of the season to stop hitting and pitching. And the Dirtbags got hot at the right time. I remember saying to my wife I'd be surprised if LBSU actually got to the dance. Bummer, because a lot of fans in the area were behind LBSU because their SS is from the Bay Area.

Not among the proposed renovations is replacing the artificial surface with natural grass. UT officials have said upkeep of a natural surface would be too expensive and construction would interfere with the lucrative Longhorns summer baseball camps. Overuse also came into the picture.
By the way, I agree with those people who think that Disch-Falk Field needs some serious work. It was already starting to get a little dumpy when I was in school from '89-94. With the new stadiums that were built for softball and soccer/track and the serious work that's been done on Royal-Memorial Stadium and the Erwin Center, all in the last 10 years, DFF really needs some work.
Honestly, I'm not sure that any work has been done on DFF since it was built in 1975, other than a fresh coat of paint every few years, a new scoreboard in 1990 or so, and new sign out on the I-35 access road. Compared to all the new college baseball stadiums that have been built in the past few years for also-ran programs, I think that the UT athletic department can find the means to see that one of the top three baseball programs in the country has a first-class stadium.
And Lord knows that they can afford it.

Texas is on to the best-of-three final series after Wednesday's 7-6 win over Georgia. It's really be the first game since the regionals where their opponent has been competitive. I was actually starting to contemplate the possibility of the Horns' losing after Justin Simmons coughed up five runs in the third.
The final series will start Saturday night against whoever wins tonight's Fullerton St.-South Carolina game.

I had forgotten all about her until now. Here's to an upset of the Longhorns.
