The game is still a week away, but I'm so excited I'm making the thread now. :p
Here's the team I would pick.
---------------Calamity
Chuckle----John------Sol-----Ash
Becks----Stevie G---Lamps--Ginge
----------------Wayne
-----------St. Mike of Owen
I have no idea what the score is gonna be, but nonetheless...
Come on England!!

That's the team Sven will pick as well.
I'd be very tempted to bring in Bridge for Cole, but against France we need Cole's pace and his knowledge of his club mates.
It's looking good, form and confidence looks decent, team is stronger than the one at the World Cup. Only difficult question is how physically fresh they will be in the second half of games and whether Scholes can stay disciplined on the left, but Sven seems to be sorting all this out.
I'm going to watch all of the games on TV. The 5pm kickoff for the first matches of the day is a shade early, but I'll still get them. Should be some real classics in this tournament, even more than usual.
Get in!

Sven should definitely use that formation for France. I still think we could do with another ball-winner in central midfield though. Gerrard is the only player in that midfield who is a good tackler. Even a team as skillful as France play both Makelele and Vieira.
Scholes, suprisingly, seemed happier playing on the left in a flat four. With Rooney dropping back into an attacking midfield position, the space at the head of a diamond is already taken, and it gets a bit congested. From the left, Scholes was able to find the time and space to thread some clever passes through to the forwards, and sneak into the box a couple of times.

This is where Becks and his work rate is important. He gives the team the extra ball winning in midfield coming in from his right side, and considering he's going to be right up against Zidane I hope he's 100%.

Heh, yeah, for any1 who saw 3lions on Sky, Cole said "I'll have to kick Robert (Pires) abit and he won't like it".
Which is why Ashley is my boy!

It'll be the line up used throughout the tournament not permitting ijuries. Bit worried though ifd campbell and terry get injured? I mean after Rio and woodgate not being able to go. And if campbell or terry got injured it not much to say about the centre of our defence. I whish Rio was playing.

I thought Carragher did a job there for us against Iceland. There was an article in the Observer, though, that pointed out that the Icelander's attacked in nice straight lines which made it pretty easy to defend.
I saw the France/Ukraine game last night and the Ukrainian's were unlucky not to get a result. The French had most of the play but seemed a bit clueless how to break the Ukrainian's down. The Ukrainian's were without Shevchenko and so didn't pose much of a goal threat.
Henry and Zidane looked good and had some beautiful touches but didn't really achieve anything with them. Zidane had one good shot on target after a little shimmy and Pires had a pop on the half volley as well from a ball that broke loose in the area; both well saved.
It was quite funny, actually... After all the crap we've heard about France's ability to play along the floor and make pretty intricate patterns with their play, their goal, (there was only one), came from a ball lumped into the centre by Willy Sagnol and headed down??? by Henry for Zidane to knock it in.

It should help his being a team-mate of Zidane's. He'll obviously have trained against him in practice many times and should have a pretty good idea what to expect, at least.

'John Terry is facing a desperate race against time to be fit for England's Euro 2004 opener against France in Lisbon on Sunday.'
Who do we think is going to partner Sol?
I thought Carragher did a reasonable job there for us but I haven't seen enough of Ledley King to make a judgement, to be honest. Hasn't he been playing in midfield for Spurs?

What a choice! Who would be better at facing Henry, Trezeguet and Co? I would go for King because I think Carragher is known to be incapable of defending against Henry.

King has looked fast when I've seen him which is vitally important against guys like Henry. I would imagine his problem will be one of positioning rather than athleticism. Wasn't he going to be a sprinter or something?
Not sure about Trezeguet, to be honest. When I've seen him he's looked a bit hopeless. Let's just hope he's having one of those games.

You're thinking there of Anthony Gardner, who is faster than Henry and was an exceptional sprinter in his youth days. Could have gone on to represent GB at the olympics if it wasn't for footie.
King is a good deal quicker than Carragher and the one I'd hope Sven would go with. He spent a good deal of this season playing in midfield which was a typically stupid decision by David Pleat, but he is without question a centre back. He's more naturally talented than Sol Campbell, especially when in posession and reading the play, and has always been compared with Sol since he was a kid, having followed the same path to first team football. The downside of course is that he is very inexperienced at this level, could well get caught out because of this and if things go wrong might have a hard time coping. He has done well though on both of his caps so far, Portugal he was very good and in the 2nd half against Iceland he did well.
I expect Sven to go with Carragher , but I'm still hopefull Terry will come through ok for the game. Would be an ever more uphill task otherwise.

I`ve just noticed that Kings squad number is 15 and Carraghers is 16. This might be an indicator that Sven will put King ahead.

The same "scums" who watched both players develop from kids into England internationals. It is amusing to see the same A*senal fans who were slating Campbell when he made his debut and saying he shouldn't be in the England squad to now bowing down at his feet. He's a world class defender, but he made the best of what talent he had, he wasn't a naturally great player.

Well thy don't have any home grown talent of their own (Ashley Cole is NOT from their Youth academy before some tit tries to tell me he is) He joined aged 20, and used to play for Palace.

Ash was from their Youth Academy. Ash was loaned out to Palace before getting into first team. Get your facts right :)
