A few weeks ago when DC was playing LA on FSW, either Bretos or Hopkins pointed out that Earnie Stewart wears a size 9, but plays in a 7 1/2 because he feels that this allows him to make a cleaner strike on the ball. I wear a 10 but I'm thinking of playing in 9s if this is the case. Has anybody tried this?

If you've seen Earnie Stewart's shooting this season, you'll find the irony in that statement.

In all seriousness, I like my shoes tight rather than loose as well.

yeah, I've seen the shooting, which is exactly why I chose to get a second opinion on this! :)

I like tight boots so i can feel the ball with my toes. I dont like them too tight though. Remember your foot gets hot and swells as you play so you need to allow some room for that otherwise you could get cramp.

I would get small shoes but i am still growing a lot so i have to buy them and grow into them a bit.

you buy the shoes a size or half size too small then buy a shoe stretcher, soak the shoes in cold water then insert your the stretchers for a couple hours. take them out periodically to and see if you like the size. that is how i get my shoes to be optimal.

good luck.

Sizing varies between brands and even models. I wear a 10 in adidas running shoes, 8 1/2 Copas and 9 1/2 Supernova flats. Try on different boots in different sizes and figure out which is best for you. Keep in mind that top notch leather will stretch and mold to your feet but with synthetics, not so much.

WTF shoes does this Earnie Stewart guy wear? I mean mebe a few sizes down, but a 5.5 from a 9 is a hell of a jump. Even with the stretching techniques, I can't imagine many shoes fitting well when stretched to that degree, mebe Vapors, but can't see any multi-panel shoes (ie that have joining seems around the foot) working too well.
The guy must have pretty small flat feet im guessing, longer than wide etc!!!

There are so many good shoes today and leather is so far beyond anything your dad or granddad played in, just go to a soccer speciality store and get a shoe that fits.

Plus shoes are high tech now, unless you are going to buy an all leather shoe, how are you going to get the plastic in the adidas Predators to shrink? And the Nike lightweight shoes (Talaria?) are all plastic construction.

Go to a good store and try on all the shoes until you find a pair that fits your feet. Don't buy a shoe just because Mario Melchiot wears them.

Earnie Stewart wearing a 5 1/2? When DC played Galaxy when DC came to LA i got to be on the field when they came on and we shook the hands of the DC players, his Puma (KSL's i think) did not look like a 5.5 It was at the Home Depot Center

Be careful. I used to wear shoes a size smaller and my freakin' toenails started falling off! Besides they hurt like hell!

i can't see a pair of regular KSL's stretching enough to warrant a 1.5/3.5 size stretch...

Preds will stretch, but mostly the outer portion. They are a hard boot to stretch

i've worn valsport and mizuno for the past few years. i should be a 12 in valsport but wear an 11 because the leather will stretch alot. the mizunos i should wear 11 but wear a 10.5 because they don't stretch as much, but are still nice and tight.

very little, no synthetic really stretches all that much

oh damn, well i bought a pair of total 90 II's and i think they fit a little bit too snug, so i am trying to stretch them out. i wore them already and they felt fine but a little small. maybe i will get used to them or maybe they will expand a tiny bit for me. keeping my fingers crossed!
