When someone stinks
And they don't look good
Who ya gonna call
GOATBUSTERS.

I love it, sports are always better when you have someone to hate.

I am concerned that they have invited, and provided prima facia evidence for, a lawsuit based on discriminatory hiring.

Amen.

This is an American league designed to promote the game in the US and develop US players.

Chivas will create rivalry, but it will also create animosity. It will divide LA along racial lines, which is not what we want in this country. Splitting people along ethnic lines only creates hatred and outsiders.

The Latino community in L.A. is going to continue to support the Galaxy. It's more complex and diverse than you realize. A lot of Guatemalans and Salvadorans and Mexican-Americans, etc., will stick with the Galaxy (like me). I think the division in the city between the two teams will be like the old Oscar de La Hoya rivalry with that Mexican boxer Chavez, with Oscar being the "pretty boy" who was more the guy supported by people who were middle class and "Chicano"

Isn't it illegal to employ people in this country based on ethnicity or race? So if he chooses a Latino team, it's discriminatory. How about an MLS team declare it will employ only white American players, as Chivas only has Mexican players? Do you think that would fly?

The Harlem Globetrotters?

The Harlem Globetrotters?

While I see what you're pointing to, the two aren't really that similar. Chivas USA will be competitive, professional sports whereas the Harlem Globetrotters are more of a "show" or "production" eventhough they're obviously talented basketball players.

Last year I took my car in for a tune-up and I noticed that one of the employees was a Chivas fan so I went home and got a Chivas training sweater my cousin had given me before taking my vehicle in. (I don't really trust mechanics and all but that is another story) When it was time to pay this man asked me if I had a coupon for the tune-up. I wasn't even aware they had a coupon available. Next thing I know I have a coupon in my hand and with the money I saved I had a good lunch.

Sometimes it pays to be a Chivas fan or at least act like one. :D

Fuerza Necaxa!

Haha, very good. :)

Don't kid yourself. You know nothing about LA.

Leading up to the playoffs, a Chivas match on Univision outdrew a key Laker match on KTTV (channel 9).

Chivas is arguably LA's 2nd most favored sports team. You can buy fake and authentic Chivas stuff in almost any convenience store in any area w/ a significant amount of Mexicans in the vecinity. I have never in my life seen a ManU or any other Euro club in a convenience store in LA, SF or SJ.

Don't kid yourself ppl: Chivas is the most popular soccer team in a soccer rabid nation of 120 million ppl. (Even on the Pacific coast, where baseball is king, Chivas is popular.) And it remains the most popular team w/in its diaspora. (That means in the US.)

I am Mexican American and Im from Los Angeles. My parents are from Guadalajara Mexico. Let me tell you that the Mexican Chivas is as popular as the Dodgers, Lakers, Angels. Just driving around L.A. I see many cars with Chivas stickers on the back windows. I also see a lot of people wearing Chivas jerseys, jackets, baseball caps etc. There are a LOT of Mexicans and Mexican Americans that root for Chivas here in L.A. Im am not talking as a fan... Im just telling you guys what I see here in L.A. When Chivas USA starts playing in L.A. It will already have a huge fanbase. Have you noticed that Chivas USA doesnt even exist yet and there is a HUGE buzz in these boards?? One more thing, the MLS only has 10 teams, we NEED more teams.

I hope you're right. I do believe that, at least initially, Chivas USA will have some excellent attendance numbers. What I'm concerned about is the core fans that continue to come back after the novelty has worn off. At the end of the day, Chivas USA will not be Chivas de Guadalajara and undoubtedly some "real Chivas" fans will turn their backs on the new club. I truly hope that it is a small percentage though.

Fixed your text. DOH!

I think its good that MLS is expanding, and even better to have a very wealthy invester at the helm of any new franchise. I also think that this particular situation, as has been pointed out could be a BIG advantage for MLS and soccer in the U.S. in general. The rivalry of any teams in such close quarters is usually a great one, let alone in soccer.

While I dont really aree with putting it in a city that already has a team, I think that L.A. is probably the best choice in terms of sheer numbers, and existing poplularity of Chivas. I Just hope that the fans STICK with the team, and dont decide to hate it as a "fake" or not the real thing, or ripoff or whatever of thier Mexico counter parts if it doesnt do well for quite sometime initially.

Should this prove to be true, it will be interesting to see what happens when Chivas comes to visit OTHER MLS cities such as D.C. Chicago, maybe Dallas and SJ, that have larger latino/hispanic populations. I know the Washington Metro area has one of the largest such populations in the country. Will it boost attendance for those games? Will it draw more visitor fans? Will it foster some sort of hatred / rivalry just because it brings out more visitor fans at thier home matches? I guess we will find out.

The ONLY thing that I will firmly DISAGREE with is the use of USA in any way shape or form in thier team name.

US, USA, in ANY FORM sh ould be reserved for United States National teams ONLY. Chivas LA, or just Chivas is fine. Any name is fine really, just so long as it does not have the aforementioned COUNTRY initals in it.

CHIVAS USA is a piece of trash, GALAXY will Murder them, and make them wish they never settled in L.A.!! lol

As long as the MLS make Vergara and the Chivas franchise play by the same Rules as other MLS clubs there won't be any problems. In fact, it may be a good idea for the Chivas LA and Galaxy matches to be scheduled at different times during the day. I.E. The Galaxy match is at 2PM PDT, and the Chivas match would be at 7pm PDT, so someone could watch Both Clubs..one Home @HDC, and the other Away on TV.

The MLS should make sure that A.) CHivas doesn't cannibalize the Galaxy, even though its assumed that Chivas will have a larger Fan Base, it doesn't guarantee High attendance will last. especially if they start to lose some. B.) Galaxy v Chivas matches are in a healthy environment (I.E. No "incidents" between supporter groups)

I'm latino and from LA and I hate Mexican soccer. It sucks, bottom of the trash, crap soccer.

Chives USA can blow me. They need to go anywhere but L.A. For one thing, I find it that a damn mexican company thinks LA is completely Mexican. The Galaxy already has hispanics on the team, does it piss them off they don't have a Spanish name?

Geez. . . leave the galaxy alone.

Chivas should go to San Diego, San Antonio, Houston, Seattle, etc. and change it's name to Rams, Goats, or whatever. I sure as hell don't watch MLS to watch Mexican teams.

I'll bet you that the MLS players union will sue and win. Who the hell do the damn mexican bastards think they can get away with this? This ain't Mexico.

Easily blocked. . . No way in hell that Chivas can get away with this.

You have no any idea of how MLS works. The players union means crap...
Just look at the player representatives(Donovan, Olsen, etc.) These guys make "good" money in MLS standards, they dont care about other players. They have been talking about raising the leaque minimum(24K per year) for years now.
Plus you have some players making $850.00 per month. That is a complete joke. I dont see the union doing anything about that.

And yes this is Mexico

No, they're not idiots like you.

Where do you get that they assume that all of LA is Mexican? Golly, I've seen several quotes in which they've spoken of highly detailed demographics studies (Chicago has more ppl from Jalisco in a more concentrated area than does LA, for instance), so it leads me to believe that they have done their homework as per the ethnic breakdown of the LA Basin.

1. The EPL has 4 or 5 teams in and around London. True, England is a geographical minnow compared to the USA, but our soccer-loving population is about equal to the entire population of Denmark, so make of this what you will. Adding Mexican-American fans across the country should about double that figure. Two teams in LA will not be a problem, but a boon.

2. Just as Constantinople became the second Rome -- but with an identity all its own 'within the faith' -- so will it be with Chivas USA. Chapter and verse to be written, of course, but I believe its fans will keep the faith, because its gonna be fun, folks, and Vergera will make 'em proud.

As some white guy from Raleigh I'd just like to say how happy that one of our expansion teams is ready to go. If CHivas USA works out like it's supposed to it would be a great step forwarde for the league financially, and great for AEG seeing that they own the HDC. However, isn't club america more famous in la than chivas? Who nows, maybe club america usa will go to los angeles too. :)
