Holy ********, man. Are you kidding me? A Subaru WRX engine in a ********ing 1987 Vanagon?

yeah, its AWESOME. its mounted, i believe, backwards, so its in a front wheel drive configureation, which, since its backwards and in the rear of the vanagon, means that its powering the rear wheels.

bad. ass.

If i can find it, I'll post the thread where someone took the 2.7L Acura Legend engine (which the NSX is based off of) and shoved it into a 85 CRX. Thing ran 11's NA.

This got me curious to see what else was out there by way of engine swaps, and it turns out Ford Motor Company shoved a 5L V8 into a Ford Focus and called it the "RS8 Concept Car". 420 horses, 370 ft-lb of torque. http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/focus_rs8.asp

Made it a RWD, too. I would've made it AWD - that would've been sweet.

Of course, this is nowhere as cool as some dude in his garage, but I'm salivating at the idea of a 420 bhp Focus.

i was driving down riverside drive in columbus and i came up on an 80s mazda Rx7 so i figred id give him a run.

turns out the dude had done a V8 conversion, and absolutly took me after 2nd gear.

it was pretty funny, and the dudes car was sweet. stock looking setup and everything.

Too bad that dude won't be able to drive the Vanagon like he could a WRX.

A lot of people with older Z cars (esp.240's and 280's) have done the V8 conversion, too. Things are fast, but not well balanced, obviously. you could run frag, but straight lines are no fun, and I'm sure as aWRX owner, you would concur.

One setup I'm seriously considereing is a Ford Festiva with the Mercury Capri XR2 Turbo in it. Festivaa can be bought for like $500, and the capris are easily found under a grand, too. Sport Compact Car ran a hybrid how-to on this setup earlier this year, buit I can't seem to find that back issue. I think the wife threw it out because it was giving me too many ideas!

I saw that, Sport Compact Car magazine ran a thing about it last month or the month before. Hell, I'd buy ythe turbocharged RS Focus if they ever brought it over here.

You can actually buy a crate engine from Ford Racing that is specifically made for the Focus. I forgot the HP/torque/dislacement #'s on it, but it was pretty spendy IIRC (at least $10K  ).
