So we've got a new kit for one season, then a special "last season at Highbury" kit, then, undoubtedly, another new kit for the first season at Wenger Stadium.
WTF - we're as bad as ManUre all of a sudden. Geez...

I need to buy a new shirt as my current one (several years old, still has JVC as the sponsor!) is on its way out, but this kind of thing annoys me no end. They should keep the current shirt until we move and then release new shirts for the new stadium. If they wanted to do something commemorative, they should have released a patch that could be put onto existing shirts, much the same way as they usually have writing above the crest on Cup Final day. Although I suppose my track record with shirts (buying one and keeping it for years) means that I shouldn't be too worried personally.

As long as the shirts aren't horrendous, I really don't mind...I may need a bigger closet in a few years, but it is alright by me. BTW, I do think this years home kit is better than the one for next....

As do I. I would rather they kept the current kit for an extra year, then had the single-year commemorative.
Then again, I think the next shirt with the yellow trim is ugly, so maybe they've come to their senses and want to get rid of it as soon as possible.
What's interesting to me is their "consultation with fans groups." I hope they got more consultation than they did when they changed the crest. Perhaps we'll see some sort of nice traditional, retro design for the final year at Highbury?

I WONDER...since barca's strip is still sponsorless, might they go all-retro and pull out a genuine sponsorless, 70's-style kit for the home matches only, to keep O2 happy. It'd be a shame about the badge but acceptable if they went back to the embroidered cannon only...

Actually, and I'm sad to be the bearer of bad tidings, Barca is bowing and adding a sponsor.
Still, it'd be a great idea. We won't see it, but it'll be a great idea.

why would arsenal supporters care if barcelona have a shirt sponser again?
cuz they were the last bastion to sell out?? maybe its just me, but i really dont pay any attention to sponsers on shirts~~~~ i guess i just watch the football...

As long as they keep the yellow trim off the home shirt, I'm sold. Oh who am I kidding, I'm sold as soon as it's released.

The Barca kit looks great-if only for clubbing, and the sponsorship lettering would ruin that. Oh yeah, back to what matters. Was only saying maybe the Club would say we want a retro kit-no sponsorship no badge-the classic red and white sleeves and crew neck-fond memories of simpler times and simpler football too, but memories for many just as great as those made in just the past few weeks(cue the sentimental 70's guitar chords and Chicago horns)

Who is Barca's sponser? They just got a new kit at the begining of last season, so when does it go into affect.
I think the patch is a real good idea, there really is no need to keep designing new kits (not to say that I won't be buying them anyways).

Its all about the cash innit. If I take a conservative guess at how many arsenal fans in the world
I know for a fact that they got enough people on the season ticket waiting list to fill Highbury twice, so thats 80,000 right there. Include america and I reckon 200,000 is entriely plausable.
200,000 x 2 kits (H & A) x £30 a shirt = £12,000,000
Not entirely accurate, but with a new stadium to build you can see the boards mentality.

Try 39 Pounds, that's what the current kit sells for at Arsenal.com. The fact that they will only use the kit for one season is pretty lame. It's a good marketing ploy on their part to sell more. I'll keep my last years kit and then buy the commemorative kit they will wear in 2005/2006. No sense in paying for both of them when the new one doesn't look too much different from last years. Basically it's the same one all Nike Sponsored teams will be wearing for Euro 04.

Try 39 Pounds,
Can get it for less on the high street. Soccer Sport are cheap, for exampe.
I really despise the O2 strip. I prefer to have a colar. I like the 1995 JVC strip but its looking a bit tatty now, and I dont want the same to happen to my Dreamcast strip so ive stopped wearing that.
I dunno I think the O2 logo is just too big and makes all gunners look like orko from he-man (see link)

The only reason I'm interested in getting the 04-05 shirt is because of the league championship badges.

I don't really mind the 02 logo. If they must have a sponsor, I'd prefer it to be a cutting-edge company rather than, say, an employment agency or car company.
Plus the logo's pretty simple. That's a plus to me.
I think the big question is: what fan groups are they consulting, and how do we make our voices heard on the design of the "last season in Highbury" strip?
