I don't want to post in every thread where this is being talked about...so with one sweeping informative gesture:
http://thekartikreport.wordpress.com/2009/09/02/exclusive-sirius-wsd-restart-a-no-go/
It was reported earlier today by World Soccer Reader (http://worldsoccerreader.com/2009/09/sirius-announces-new-hosts-for-world-soccer-daily/) that Sirius Satellite Radio was planning on re-starting World Soccer Daily with co-hosts Nick Geber and Keith Costigan. The story cites a three day old press release, about a potential Monday August 31st start to the new show.
The Kartik Report has learned according to well placed sources that the show will not air due to extrodinary circumstances. Evidence was brought to Sirius about the circumstances surrounding Nick Geber’s termination from BLUFF media.
Now everyone knows, isn't the Internet grand? ;)

All the videos of it are removed from youtube. I guess that's what he was terminated for, sexist remarks?

Quoting Woody, from the WFD/WSD message board
"That's not the situation, it's nothing to do with his comments on the hot mic. This is serious, and I hope people will respect Nick's privacy in the matter. He'll talk about it if he wants."

Nick should join WFD and they should boot Kenny off.

NO. That was NOT the reason Nick departed Bluff Media, according to my former poker industry colleagues.
(I am no longer a poker agent.)

Seems like WSD has/had high standards all round then.

Given how sensitive LFC boycotters are, Geber is the last thing you'd want on WSD.
Unless of course, LFC boycotters are hypocrites.
Geber's remarks were often controversial...even moreso than Cohen.
Man, remember his impersonations of people of middle eastern backgrounds by using the high-pitched noise commonly heard by rallying terrorists?
I've got a buddy who's an American born Muslim that loved WSD, but couldn't stomach Geber b/c of that. They often had callers calling in to the show complaining on air about it.
Nonetheless, my buddy simply didn't tune in when Geber was on.

Geber also did is Gunthar character (an anti semetic german) on WSD which was more offensive that any comment Steven said about LFC fans.
I know Geber was joking i.e both him and Steven are Jewish.
My point is LFC fans weren't trying to get the show off the air when Geber and LFC supporter was making outragious statements.

The first part of your post is opinion, what is offensive to you, may be water off a ducks back to someone else, making anti semitic jokes is ok now if you are jewish? If you say so.
As for your last point, where did Geber repeatedly insult a team, the city it's based in, that city's residents and lastly 96 of that teams dead fans (and their families) who died through NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN?
If Geber had said what Cohen had (repeatedly) then i can imagine that it would have got the same reaction.

This is turning into a pissing contest over who has more right to be offended. The reality is that liverpool supporters were offended enough at Steven to make it a crusade...while no other "offended" group was.
Those are facts, as is the reality that this is OVER. Time to find a new hobby cbrown89, your just providing your own insensitive commontary to the events...and as much as Liverpool supporters were offended by Steven's comments, you are fighting against the /man/ and not the /statements/. The very definition of a witch hunt, so take it elsewhere.
It takes a very special kind of obsession to continue this after it is done and dusted. I regret that you have that, I'm sympathetic toward your plight even if sick of being on the receiving end of it.

Your point is meaningless.
Steven lied about, and insulted Liverpool supporters.
Steven called Liverpool supporters murderers.
Liverpool supporters were insulted by this and took action via a boycott.
Are you seeing the connection here yet?
When someone insults Jews or any other group of people it is not about who was insulted more but if/when (inset particular group of people here) are the subject of such statements it really should be those people themselves that take the action they deem appropriate.
It takes a very special kind of obsession to continue this after it is done and dusted. I regret that you have that, I'm sympathetic toward your plight even if sick of being on the receiving end of it.
It will be done and dusted when both sides quit the bashing . Do you deliberately turn a blind eye to the bashing of Liverpool fans and just turn your radar on for the Cohen bashing?
If someone is saying negative things about someone else it's surely not unreasonable to expect a rebuttal. It's rather hypocritical actually to feel it is OK to defend Cohen but not OK to defend someone else portrayed negatively.

How about no other offended group heard those remarks?
How about justice has also been served for others, yet not for the 96?
You're the one turning this into a fight, i'm just providing checkable facts. You wanna bury your head in the sand-go ahead, your choice. Just as it was Cohen's to open his mouth in 2006 (07, 08 and 09). his choice to lie about Hillsborough, his choice to twist it into his first amendment rights, then a 'free speech' issue, then anti semitism and finally his own family.
All with no proof-despite being asked and offered help to find who sent these 'alleged' threats.
So one week he's all "i can't do this, my kids have been contacted (no one bothered that an eight year old has a facebook account?) i'm scared to open the door etc.
The next week, it's we're back, it's gonna be "for the people by the people" and you lot are gonna pay for it. Uh no i'm not, especially not when there is better podcasts out there for free.
JFT96. Period.
that is because you are ignorant, and petty
No it's because i never heard Nick Geber do this and wouldn't claim otherwise.

How about no other offended group heard those remarks?
How about justice has also been served for others, yet not for the 96?You use words like 'justice' as if you even understand what they mean in this context, and clearly you don't.
How has he turned it into a fight? He isn't the one going from forum-to-forum badgering people with the same trite responses of an issue that has been dead for over two weeks. The 'fight' as Tybio mentioned, is over.
How is Tybio burying his head in the sand? You are going off on the tangential talking points that all lead back to the same 3 pieces of rhetoric from a dead issue.
As for your 'facts' other than hammering the points from the Taylor report (which is an opinion based, although thorough, investigation), you have not really presented anything but bombastic claims.
All with no proof-despite being asked and offered help to find who sent these 'alleged' threats. How do you know the people who sent the threats offered help?
So one week he's all "i can't do this, my kids have been contacted (no one bothered that an eight year old has a facebook account?) i'm scared to open the door etc.

JFT96. Period.
oh shut up, and "Never Forget" "9/11" "Remember the Alamo" we get it:rolleyes:
No it's because i never heard Nick Geber do this and wouldn't claim otherwise.yeah, because you are ignorant to the goings on of the show, and cherry pick your battle, without looking at the whole picture. You will protect Geber, because he is a Liverpool supporter, through masked naivete.

No Cbrown, you're a self-righteous LFC supporter and not objective. You saw what you needed to see...that is, attacks on LFC. It is what it is, everyone's biased to a degree, nonetheless, there's no need to feign objectivity my friend. You are a weak-stomached hypocrite and should simply embrace that fact. LFC is your baby, and you had to protect it.
Anways, Geber was always more offensive than Cohen and consistently so. Like I mentioned earlier, he had people calling him live on air insisting that he stop with his racist remarks towards people of middle eastern descent. He responded generally by mocking them and downplaying their "oversensitivity."
He was, at various times, racist, sexist, ethnocentric, etc. Granted, in his mind it was a joke and all in good fun. And for most people, it was. But, nonetheless, racists jokes are no joke to many and certainly more offensive to more people than suggesting that LFC fans share responsibility for the Hillsborough disaster.
Nevertheless, people who were offended merely stopped tuning in.
I should add also that Howard Rogers was thought to be very offensive by many listeners. I thought he was great, but part of the reason why he was replaced was because Kenny was thought to bring a friendlier direction to the show. Rogers was never on the level of Geber mind you. Rogers was just incredibly elitist and condscending towards everything except English football.
LFC boycotters loved to cite Cohen's alleged anti-MLS attitudes, but Rogers was far worse in terms of disrespecting the league and US soccer in general.

Your point is meaningless.
Steven lied about, and insulted Liverpool supporters.oh, boo-effing-hoo
Steven called Liverpool supporters murderers. He isn't the first in the media, nor the last.
Liverpool supporters were insulted by this and took action via a boycott.and now that they have 'won' the boycott, they won't shut the eff up about cohen. seriously, shut the effe up.
Are you seeing the connection here yet?no, it is way too complicated:rolleyes:
When someone insults Jews or any other group of people it is not about who was insulted more but if/when (inset particular group of people here) are the subject of such statements it really should be those people themselves that take the action they deem appropriate.Yeah, so when a suburbanite American, with no connections to Mersyside, decides to go on a crusade, it looks like a foolish endeavor.
It will be done and dusted when both sides quit the bashing . Do you deliberately turn a blind eye to the bashing of Liverpool fans and just turn your radar on for the Cohen bashing? If Liverpool fans cant handle bashing, then why do they easily hand it out? Why do they sing songs about Munich? It's all hypocritical.
If someone is saying negative things about someone else it's surely not unreasonable to expect a rebuttal. It's rather hypocritical actually to feel it is OK to defend Cohen but not OK to defend someone else portrayed negatively.Rarely in this debate have people defended Cohen. For the most part, people just want the boycotters, liverpool fans and protesters to shut up, and get on with their lives. it is a dead issue. time to move on.
