Roma president Franco Sensi has announced that the club will make a new bid for Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids.

There is likely to be a brief period between September 7 to 13 when the transfer window opens again because of the delayed start to Serie A and B.

"We'll make a new offer, but it will be lower than our last bid as Davids won't be able to play in the Champions League," said Sensi.

They are set to offer £7 million plus half of Gaetano D'Agostino's contract, although Juve are unlikely to accept given that they've just let Parma have Matteo Brighi.

7 million? That's pathetic.

Roma is really desperate aren't they?

Sources close to SoccerAge.com can confirm AS Roma are still interested in signing Juve's 'Pitbull' Edgar Davids, whose relationship with coach Marcello Lippi has become disastrous to say the least, but won't go over the 10 million Euros plus Lima offer that the Bianconeri have categorically refused so far.

Roma are on the verge of signing unsettled Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids in a deal reportedly worth £18 million.

A recent fallout between Davids and Juve coach Marcelo Lippi is believed to be the main reason for the sale-on Juve's behalf- while Davids himself has constantly displayed his eagerness to move from the Turin club.

While Juve will be delighted with the agreed transfer fee, given the fact Davids isn't eligible for the Champions League, they will be a little worried about only having less than one week to snap up a suitable replacement for the Dutch star.

Reports are suggesting that Juve General Manager Luciano Moggi has a keen interest in Inter and azzurri midfielder Cristiano Zanetti, whilst AC Milan's Massimo Ambrosini has recently emerged as a possible target.

Hey all,

This may sound like a stupid question, but why isn't Edgar available for the Champions League?

He's already been registered by Juventus, hence he can't play for Roma unless they advance to the next round.

Are you sure? I thought you have to actually play a minute to be considered cup tied.

Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has claimed that Serie A rivals Roma did not play fair in their bid to sign their Holland midfielder Edgar Davids.

Champions League doesn't really use the concept of being "Cup tied" but instead has deadlines for each round by which date players have to be registered by their team. If a player is registered for one team, he can't play for another team - in that round. He may be eligible to play for another team in a later round, if he's registered by that team ahead of that round's deadline.

That's what I figured. Obviously, Davids won't be eligible to play for Roma for matchdays 1-8 but, if your right, and he transfers to Roma before he plays a minute of Champions League football for Juve then he would be eligible to play for Roma in the CL in February.

Roma didn't make a strong bid to acquire Davids, they weren't serious about it. Maybe they have financial issues...
If that's the case, they could have sold us Totti,or Samuel: we'd talk.

:p

SoccerAge (http://www.soccerage.com/en/13/h3714.html)Davids: I Never Spoke With Roma

Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids has brushed aside reports that he had an agreement to join Roma by stating that he never spoke to the Giallorossi.

"There have been things said and written that are not true," he said. "But now I don't want to speak about it anymore.

"As you see I've remained here and my only task is to play for my team. I have never spoken with Fabio Capello or Francesco Sensi about my possible transfer to Rome."
