Take it away, Mengao86! :D

Maldonado has been solid in all games. I believe he is starting to regain fitness and form with each game. If he keeps it up, I think Bielsa will have to consider him for 2010.

Fierro has improved slightly, but he's pretty much the same player. He's technically limited, but shows effort on the field by running, making slide tackles, etc. I doubt that's the type of player he was known as Chile, but that is what he has become. A hustle player.

Maldonado has been a very efficient player since arriving here. We are undefeated for 9 games since his arrival and that of Alvaro. He has completed 90% of his passes and has yet to receive a card, despite his marking responsibilities. If he maintains this form, Bielsa definitely needs to give him a look. I'm not sure how your situation is with DMs, but he'd at least be a good bench option.

Thanks for the vid. From a Brazilian standpoint, how is his Brazilian/Portuguese accent, is it heavy or notably foreign?

Agreed. Currently, Maldonado would be competing with 3 other guys for the DM spot. In Bielsa's system, the DM is actually a deep-lying CM that needs to be able to initate attacks and spread the ball about.

-Carlos Carmona (Reggina): essentially and originally a RWB, Bielsa has tried to convert him into a DM and has sone so (imo) unsuccesfully. Tends to give away too many fouls and this is evidenced by the fact he's been suspended 3 times in WCQ (over YC accumulation). Tireless runner but still lacks the "soccer" to the accomplished DM Chile needs.

-Marco Estrada (U. de Chile): lost his spot due to injury but had been an ever-present in Bielsa's squads. Left-footed, and a great free-kick tacker he's a "poor man's" Andrea Pirlo. His tackling has improved because originally was not an out-and-out DM (in fact, he started his career as a LB). Sorely missed in the starting line-up, imo.

-Mauricio Isla (Udinese): another tireless runner-type player and in Italy tends to play on the right side of the field. Started his career (with Chile's U20s) as a DM but has only had one, maybe two good games with the NT: one of which was a friendly this year.

In a nutshell, that is "Chester's" competition at the moment, with Carmona having the nod right now.

He has a Hispanic accent(not heavy), but his grammer and vocabulary are pretty good. Valdivia's and Fierro's Portuguese is atrocious.
