Americana Hotel (http://www.americanahotel.com/)
Not downtown but cheap, near Metro, airport and gets good reviews (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g30242-d120572-Reviews-Americana-Arlington_Virginia.html)
Honestly, unless you can find a deal online somewhere, most DC hotels are going to be $$$ as they cater to business people during the week (just saw a report that DC hotel rates have gone up recently, not affected by economy). Best bet is to find something along Orange or Blue line on the Metro (both stop at RFK). Use Tripadvisor.com to get some reviews on places or ask here.

The Americana is one metro stop on either the Blue Line towards Largo Town Center or on the Yellow Line towards Fort Totten from Ronald Reagan National Airport.
Just got off the phone with the Americana and they say that rooms are filling up quickly for that week. Call as soon as possible.

The Stadium is accessible from the Americana on either the Blue Line towards Largo Town Center or the Orange Line towards New Carrolton.

Wardman, famous DC real estate developer
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Wardman) That's a nice hotel (HUGE meeting hotel!) but you're down the street from the National Zoo (http://nationalzoo.si.edu/default.cfm)and a quick Circulator (http://www.dccirculator.com/)ride to Adams Morgan (http://www.adamsmorgannow.com/) or Columbia Heights (http://innercity.org/).
