View Full Version : Lampard's new role?
Lampard confident in new defensive role (http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/040602/2/45ur.html)
I realize that Makelele is our true DM, but it seeemed to me that Frankie played the entire season in a rather deep position as well. Perhaps not focusing on a true marking or defensive style, but I almost always got the impression that Chelsea was playing with 2 DM's.

I saw the match last night against Japan and he's not a defensive midfielder. He's OK when there's no pressure but he's too slow getting a foot in and closing down at the highest level. It's a rather specialised position, to be honest. He works best when he's in advanced positions.
I would have thought we'd be better off grooming young Parker for that role after Makalele.

Glad to hear that from you. You didn't think much of Makelele before.

You're joking, right?
When I asked if you were taking the piss I was suggesting that many of your comments can't be understood. It's not just that we disagree with many of the ones we CAN understand... it's that, frankly, many of us have great difficulty understanding what some of your comments mean at all.
Saying 'Remember Makalele raw' doesn't mean anything. Well, unless you and I had eaten Makalele and he was under-done by the chef.
If you'd care to explain what the phrase means we can, perhaps, have a discussion about it.

Although Lampard was in that 'holding' role the other night, it was noticeable that he couldn't help getting forward. When he did Gerrard stepped in and covered the role, but it amazed me that once England scored, they seemed to 'switch' off. If they paly like that against France, the French will tear us to bits.
If Eriksson wants Lamps to play that role in the Euro's Lamps has to learn fast.
But then again friendlies against the Euro's. No contest really. After all thats what friendlies are for and it makes me laugh how 'overboard' the media goes in the UK when things dont turn out right in friendly matches.

Wasn't there a competitive match a while ago where we started with the diamond and the players more or less reverted to a flat four on their own?

Sorry for the confusion, but this raw means something like an uproar. I was referring when Makelele wanted out and Real refused to let him go.

That's "row", not "raw". And grammar would help too.

I meant Carlos was about to have the same row Makelele had with Real.
- Not anymore because Terry punked him out(scared him).
When you said "now you are taking the piss" I thought you were putting Makelele down. That explains my comment " glad to hear that from you . You didn't think much of him before".

Sometimes I think his grammar book was torn apart by a dog....and put back together by a blind man.

Oh it is you again. This wasn't even grammar. It was one letter spelling error.

I actually think it was more of a critique of your vast body of work in the "football commentary" field he was referring to.
