View Full Version : Wayne Rooney and His Temper

I have maintained all along that Wayne Rooney shouldn't start b/c he is too immature when it comes to his temper. Last night on two occassions you could tell the little switch flicked on and he went into revenge mode. I even think he wouldn't be that hard to bait in a big match. I don't think he provides enough extra if at all over Heskey and Vassel to be worth the gamble of playing with 10 men in a big match. Anyone else's thoughts?

It`s not just his temper. He plays in a crucial role for the team, just behind Owen and when he blows hot and cold the team does aswell. I`m now coming round to the idea of Owen up front and Scholes further behind as part of a five man midfield. Owen could get isolated that way but if our midfield doesn`t get a grip he`ll be cut adrift anyway. The first thing we have to ensure is that we don`t get hammered in our first match, that means using Rooney as a sub with an experienced midfield starting.

Something I've noticed with young Rooney is that if his first couple of touches goes OK he plays well, if not he gets frustrated pretty damn quick and starts lashing out.

BTW, did anyone else notice that he WAS fouled by the guy when the ball was headed down to him when he, (rather half-hearedly), claimed a PK.

I hope roonaldo doesnt fall foul of the refs at euro 2004.
But I think he has coped well so far during his international career...
He has played twice vs the turks in some of the most tense games you can possibly play.

He is a passionate player and playing at the highest level at such a young age it's unrealistic to expect him to be faultless. Look how long it took Becks to get over it, I don't think Rooney is as bad and I don't see him getting into trouble when it matters. As sinner pointed out he was faultless in the two Turkey games.

Rooney should start. Remember the Brazil game, when England couldn't get past a deep lying team. Rooney is one of the few players we have capable of unlocking this sort of defence. The other that springs to mind os Joe Cole, but he is far more of a super sub than Wayne. I think Dessaily and Gallas would be extremely happy to Roonaldo on the bench, especially if it is because we're scared he may do something silly. He hasn't yet in a competitive match for England, and I reckon that (like Becks) the first time he does will also be the last.

I'm glad we've got a bit of aggression up front. Who else would you start there that soft sack of ********e heskey?

I watched the game 3 times, yet never saw the "incident" where supposedly Rooney hit sum1, what happened and when was it? Did I fall asleep, or did it not make it onto the sky sports television?

I'm more worried about Scholes, to add to the fact that he's playing crap his tackling is awful and just waiting for a red card. I have never seen a player get away with so much, before long though he will be punished. Last incident was that terrible challenge on the Japanese player, should of been a penalty and a red card for the ginger midget.

I hope the other Scholes turns up............... remember the one who could put the ball in the back of the net

If we do play with two strikers then it should be rooney although i am worried about his temper aswell - having aggression is definately not a bad thing its just whether or not he an channel it all into his football rather than an opponantrs face - i also think everyone in euro 04 knows about his temper and will try everything they can to wind him up and get a reaction out of him.
saying that if he can control himself he could play a big part in the tournament - but i would maybe prefer he comes on as a sub so we can play 5 in midfield at the start

:D

he does live on the edge abit doesn't he? you just know as soon as he is about to go in for a challange the chances of it being clean are pretty slim but weirdly the chances of him getting carded are even slimmer. still think he is one of our most important players though and it wouldn't surprise me if he started scoring again as soon as euro 04 starts - a player that good surely can't go on much longer without scoring

Well, I don't know about a red.

I'm a big fan of the lads but I have to say he's gone off the boil.

Actually, he also crocked Lampard from behind in the last Chelsea/ManU match having already had a yellow for diving. He went straight through him. Have a look...

Even SAF admitted he was lucky with that one.

I'd stil like to see him on the pitch, though, with Lamps, Beckham and Stevie G.

Just wondering if anyone reckons speculation about Rooney's temper will make things worse. Hoddle made comments about Becks' temperament before France 98, and I can't help but feel Simeone read about them and thought it sounded like a plan.

There's absolutely no question that defenders will try and wind him up. I'm not sure that anyone needs to make comments about it. If the coaches are any good, (which they are), they'll tell them about him.
