Continuing on from another thread, I've edited the squad from the Chelsea website. Red obviously out and Blue coming in. I'm one short and that's because I couldnt make up my mind if I wanted another RW or another creative central mid. I want someone that can step in in case Lampard got injured. Not really sure Joe Cole is mature enough in his play to hold that role and Veron seems to be wanting out.

Goalkeepers

Carlo Cudicini
Petr Cech
Marco Ambrosio
Jurgen Macho
Neil Sullivan
Yves Makaba Makalamby

Defenders

1. Glen Johnson
2. RB
3. William Gallas
4. John Terry
5. Robert Huth
6. CB
7. Wayne Bridge
8. Celestine Babayaro
Mario Melchiot
Marcel Desailly
Winston Bogarde

Midfielders

9. Claude Makelele
10. Scott Parker
11. Geremi
12. Frank Lampard
13. Joe Cole
14. Damien Duff
15. Arjen Robben
16. RW
Juan Sebastian Veron
Alexis Nicolas
Filipe Oliveira
Jesper Gronkjaer
Alexei Smertin
Emmanuel Petit
Mario Stanic
Boudewijn Zenden

Strikers

17. Adrian Mutu
18. Hernan Crespo
19. Eidur Gudjohnsen
20. New Striker
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Looks about right. Though I think we may still keep Veron, it depends on how he responds to Mourinho and whether we can find a similarish replacement (Beckham).

Remember Mourinho said that he only wants 21 outfield players (not including the goalkeepers).

These are the players I think he will keep, in no order at all

Cudicini
Cech

Johnson
Lampard
Cole
Duff
Gallas
Bridge
Terry
Gudjohnsen
Robben
Huth

Crespo??
Makelele??
Parker??

Everyone else I am really not sure. Take into consideration that Mourinho WILL want his own players.

It is going to be real interesting stuff.

I also wonder if Mr M knows his Chelsea history or will be told that Season 2004/2005 celebrates 2 anniversaries.

First: 100 year Centenary
Second: 50 years since our only Championship title

2004/2005 could be one hell of a season to remember.

COME ON CHELSEA!!!! :)

Ranieri had to prove himself to me and now so does Mourinho, and so far his math isn't adding up.

He says he wants to cut the first team down to 21 squad players insinuating that it was as high as 50 under Ranieri.

Fortunately, my BS detector went off right there and I checked the truth. Throwing out fringe players and players on loan, its difficult to come up with a full 21 man first team squad at the end of the Ranieri era.

Take out Bogarde, Smertin, Stanic, Petit, Nicolas, Oliveira, and Zenden and you are left with 21 squad players.

Now if you want to start playing games like, "Well, Robben is coming in."

Then, "Well, Veron is going out."

We are not amused.

Er, don't think so... Have you just come back from a liquid lunch? ;)

No. He said the squad would be as high as fifty if we were to sign every name that's been linked with us by the press.

To add to that Sky sports have quoted that apparently his last Porto squad had upwards of 30 players. Now I don't know if this is true or not but interesting.

Not a bad selection I think mine would be very close to that and as Andy said there are not that many "active players" to get rid off.

I think I might have let Geremi go and this jury is still out on Joe Cole. However footballers seem to love Joe and he did improve a lot towards the end of the season. I would also perhaps send Huth out on loan, it is a toss up between the relative benefits of regular games, vs learning our system.

Point taken, and yes, I am usually recovering from a hangover.

In fact, I've been fined and served time for some of my DIY work. ;)

He is obviously only going to improve if he's playing regularly but I want him to start performing in OUR team - not someone else's like the lad at Birmingham.

Personaly I think he must be kept because he has the potential, (and started doing it a bit in some games this season), to go past people and create things for himself and other people.

I was thinking about this in relation to England and it occurred to me that if Joe had been sent on against Brazil in the WC in 2002 it may have had a different outcome. .. certainly compared to sending Kieron bloody Dyer on who, in my opinion, is a bit of a waste of space.

I think Cole fits in the "youth movement" mold that the new manager is talking about.

Okay, probably Chelsea aren't going to become the new academy of football. But I think we need to remember that names like Henry and Van Nistelrooy weren't exactly household until they made their most recent moves. Remember, RVN was almost a flop before he started with his bad knee, and Wenger switched Henry to a forward.

I think that is the type of talent that Chelsea should be going after: the Robbens, Reyes, Parkers, Christiano Ronaldinos of the world. Not the established stars (Ronaldo, Beckham, Roberto Carlos) who already own several Mercedes and lack the drive of the young players.

RVN was an established name already, actually. There was a reason he cost 24M, you know.

I'd like some experience too, however. That's why I think Beckham would be a great fit. It'll be really interesting to see who we bring in as a striker if JFH leaves........

Yep, that line-up looks good to me. I havent been following French football so I dont know but what is Morientes' goal scoring like in the league? I know he was prolific in the Champions league but how consistent is he league wise?

Smertin? I think that train sailed the moment we bought Parker. He'd have been a good replacement for Petit, since he has a bit of vision (and played pretty well for Portsmouth), but since Parker has repeatedly shown he's about as good at playing on the wing as Roque Jr. is a defender, we haven't any room for Smertin.

The 64 million dollor question is still not answered. So I predict a struggling season. Especially if Lampard doesn't score 10 goals. Who is gonna score 30 goals upfront, or at least 25. Will it be Morientes, Crespo,Eidur, or just Mutu. I don't know about Drogba but I would like to see Trezeguet upfront. BBC suggseted Chelsea could get Drogba for 23 M. I would prefer Trezeguet, Drogba, Crespo and Eidur upfront.

... you wouldn't have to spend 23 million quid to land Didier Drogba. You could get him for 8-10 million, maximum.

You are right. That is after they turned down 17 M .

No. Sorry.

I was making a jole at the expense of bytheway who mentioned the following entries as defenders...

5. Robert Huth
6. RandomDude
7. Wayne Bridge

Thinking about it, though, maybe RandomDude is a major rising US international defender I'm unfamiliar with.
