Bush is in Denver tonight raising money from the Colorado fat cats. Apparently while he is here he is meeting with "Father" Dobson, the head of Focus on the Family. Focus on the Family (the big joke here is 'Focus on you own damn family') a reactionary, neo Christian, fundamentalist televangelical group out of Colorado Springs. Does this strike anyone else as odd?

No, knowing what I know about Bush and should focus on their own damn families. I won't even capitalize their name. Why don't the people of Springs, an otherwise fine city in a terriffic natural setting, don't tell fotf to f off is beyond me. The sad thing is, too many people here believe their message and will vote for W. I still hold up hope that Kerry can pull this state out if he's able to get the "we need change" message across to enough people. And there will be more justice should Mike Miles, or even Ken Salazar, win the Senate seat.

No, not odd at all, considering Bush's high profile visit at Bob Jones University in the last cycle.
And isn't Colorado Springs a popular destination for white flight out of California? And with all the defense business, the town has to be ultra conservative, no?

It's called "solidifying the base". Don't be surprised if Dubya tries to turn abortion and gay marriage into wedge issues, esp. since the "compassionate conservative" message is coming up craps so far.

Well we know brother Neil Bush won't be attending that meeting:D nor the Governor of the State, Bill Owens, as neither can focus on their families. Just have to wonder how many others are schtupin their secretaries, nannies, interns, or travelling to foreign countries and having women show up at their hotel rooms for sex.
Hey Northcal, President Bush is just staying the course and the FOTF group is just like a union scamming off the people that donate to pad their pockets rather than get a real productive job in the world.

Why does everything the Leftists hate get the prefix "neo"? Do they feel there is something more sinister than "Christian" such that it gets the name neo-Christian? Shouldn’t Dobson be a paleo-Christian?

Why does everything the Leftists hate get the prefix "neo"? It's a Matrix fixation. Deep down inside, we all want to wear the black suits. Talk about it at our meetings, too...
You should come along :)

Not really and fairly much yes. Douglas County seems to have a lot more Californians than Springs would, but I could be wrong. Personally, while I'm not from Cali, but if I had to live in one of those two places, I'd pick Springs if it was near work since it's at least a city and not a 45 minutes-hour away from anything burg.
There is a lot of defense work in Springs, but there is no way to prove for sure that's the only cause, or even the largest, of it being a fortress of conservatism. But it can only contribute I suppose. Springs does have a weekly liberal/events paper, the Independent, though. So there are pockets of non-ultraconservatives out there.
However, Bush's two messages obie referrs to would go over well with most Springs folks, and maybe Douglas Country and other Rep. burbs. Won't go over so well in Denver proper, or even Aurora (believe it or not over 300,000 residents), so it doesn't surprise me W's meeting with fotf.

I've already made the choice. I just don't know what it will be.

Liberals aren't the ones handing out labels. It just so happens that new movements in political thought tend to be right-heavy.
We have the new breed of spend happy, invade happy conservatives, ergo neo-Cons. We have CEO types who apply traditional liberal philosophies of less intervention/more assistance to corporations, but aren't really liberal, ergo neo-Liberals.
No idea how neo-Christians are different from the traditional Christian Right though.

I don't know that I "hate" FOTF, and I am sure that I don't brand everything "neo". I meant it in the context of not really traditional Christianity. It is more, quasi-political, money raising, radio talk show personality, media savvy, Christian. It surely isn't a love thy neighbor kind of idea.
The question was, does the president stopping to meet such an extremist make anybody else uneasy? The guy is a fringe member of the waaaay right. To me it is very worrisome. Remember, we were "the melting pot". Father Dobson has no interest in any kind of 'melting pot'.
