I'm thinking of recommending that my parents get Yahoo DSL for their high-speed internet.
Does anyone have any experience with this service? Is it well-regarded, reliable? Does it perform as well as Roadrunner?
Any thoughts are appreciated...

I don't really have a comparison point, as I've always had SBC DSL for broadband (originally Ameritech). I like it. I've never had an outage that wasn't at my end (ie, power failure), and my IP address changes very rarely (once every few months). They don't block common server ports, allowing me to run my own SMTP and POP servers, as well as an HTTP server. I also have no problems running BitTorrent, or Emule, or any of those programs.
I have had problems with the rebate department. When I ordered originally, I was supposed to get a $200 rebate which - despite frequent calls and cajoling for 12 months - never arrived, despite their claims they sent it twice. I eventually just gave up on it. And the CSRs are pretty clueless, IMO. But, the service works as advertised (including speed), so I've got no real beef.

It's loads cheaper than RR (at least here), and it's my understanding they'll sell you networking equipment for a one-time fee of $50.
For ~$25 a month, it can't be beat.
RoadRunner here in Columbus increased their download speed to 3.0Mbps from 2.0 for no additional charge. They're also rolling out a new "premium RR" that's up to 6.0Mbps for an additional fee. I don't know if that's possible with DSL.
I've also heard about DSL being slower, the further away from the central computers you are. I can't back that up through experience though.

i have SBC yahoo DSL here in columbus and i have been extremely satisfied with it the past year that i have had it. never had any problems on their end of things, much like foos said...anything that went wrong with the service was basically something on my end.
totally different than RR which i had countless problems with when i had it for 2001-2003 <service going down all the time, service extremely slow due to other users on the network, etc> which is the main reason i decided to try a different provider. sure the upload speeds are a little better with RR but the download speeds i have never noticed much of a difference when doing regular surfing.
plain and simple, if someone asked what i would go with? it would be SBC DSL hands down.
