I don't know if it is true, but people have told me that Chivas USA lost quite a few players last year to a variety of Mexican teams. If they are going to lose them to Mexico, it is better to lose them to Guadalajara since they probably have a better chance of getting them back.
Think about it. What is an 17-19 year old with no interest in playing college going to do with Chivas USA or LA Galaxy. They are not good enough to start and there is no reserve team. Better to go to Mexico where there is somewhere to play and they can make money. Galaxy signed Bowen and he's played all of one minute so far this year. I don't know where he's getting games.

L.A. loaned Bowen to Holleywood United for a short spell to get some games. Hopefully MLS brings back the reserve league in the next few seasons or at the very least each team should establish a PDL team to get their developmental guys some games.

Problem with PDL is that it is less than 3 months long except for a few playoff teams. I think the Galaxy has a Super 20 team for their college kids. The gap between current U18 academy level and MLS is huge. 3 months on PDL/super 20 works in conjuction with kids going to college. But it is a huge hole for those that do not.
