What an absolute joke that is. As soon as we get someone with a bit of sense in charge the better it will be for everyone.

Good on Hearts and Aberdeen (well, we did have a vested interest) for backing Inverness Caledonian on this one.
I can only hope the SFA overturns this decision on appeal. If not, then I hope Partick get shafted from all directions next season...

This is the quote that really bothers me...
"Partick Thistle, who would have been relegated if the move had gone ahead, had argued that Caley Thistle had failed to meet the SPL's criteria. "
They couldn't win on the field, so they are trying every way possible off the field to stay up.
Another interesting quote....
""Partick Thistle will work with other members of the SPL to seek a resolution of these issues and to ensure that by the start of season 2004-05 there will be no doubts about the criteria which will apply for that season and the years to come."

You can’t blame them though. It’s the idiots who came up with the idea in the first place. What I would really like to see happen is this.
Have one organisation in control of all of Scottish football. Instead of having the SPL and SFA.
Get Alex Ferguson in and give him complete control to restructure everything.

Ya, I saw this news at Sky. Didn't the same thing happen in he last year or two before this?

What confuses me is how the ground share could be rejected. Maybe there is something practical for a stadium needing to meet league standards. But how can an existing SPL stadium not count?

I'm not entirely sure but i think ti was because Caley Thistle's bid to share Pittodrie wasn't submitted intime? I'm sure i read somewhere that if Clyde had won the 1st division they would have been promoted because their bid to share with Killie was submitted a while back, ICT's was more a last minute thing? Might be completely wrong though :o

I read this morning that the three teams voting against Inverness were-
Partick Thistle (obviously)
Celtic
Rangers
Dundee United (having "fluttered eye-lids with the representitives from Celtic and Rangers to ensure their vote found favour with the Old Firm")
and Dunfermline, apparently out of jealousy of Aberdeen's £600,000 profit and after the whole Jimmy Calderwood thing
I dont know how much truth is in these reports but I have to hand it to Chris Robinson; he's been taking a lot of flack from the Hearts fans recently and has at last said something we can all agree with.
The whole thing is a piece of nonsense, they had agreed the groundshare. I await the explanations from the "baddies" with great anticipation.

The reasons that the 'bastard clubs' gave for voting against ICT were that their groundsharing guarentee was not submitted before the March 31st deadline.
However, the SPL rules state that the stadium due to be used fulfills SPL criteria before March 31st but ICT could wait until the start of the season to guarentee the use of it.
Of course Pittodrie fulfilled SPL criteria on March 31st and ICT guarenteed the use after this, this is OK apparently.
So, if what I've hear is true, expect legal action against the SPL very soon.
Also, the stadium criteria has been reduced to 6,000 for next season. At least that is a semi-sensible number.

It is an absolute disgrace. Why the hell do they insist on clubs having big stadiums, when they are usually half empty anyway? If they had any sense at all they would allow ICT to be promoted, as they have earned the right to play in the SPL. What is the point in having a First Division if you can't get promoted from it? And I can't understand why Scotland (and England) has to have 2 separate bodies to organise the Premier League and all the other divisions. Please sign the petition which will be sent to teh SFA ahead of the appeal, at http://www.petitiononline.com

No they didn't
"On Tuesday the finger of suspicion was pointed at the Old Firm by other clubs in the SPL who felt Celtic and Rangers had done their Glasgow neighbours Partick a favour by voting for them and against Mackie's champions.
But it emerged last night that the Old Firm were among the seven who had backed Caley Thistle's proposal, along with Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Kilmarnock and Motherwell.
Dundee and Dundee United both confirmed they were among those Mackie would like to have a word with, the Tannadice outfit being one of those clubs who abstained in the 7-5 vote.
Sources close to Livingston insisted the West Lothian club also decided to abstain as they remain in administration and currently have no owner. They were represented at Hampden by former referee Jim Renton.
Dunfermline chairman John Yorkston refused to reveal how he voted but it is understood he was one of those who opposed Caley Thistle along with Partick themselves."

Scotsman Article (http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/sport.cfm?id=630642004&20040603202119)
However, both Old Firm clubs responded to the widespread assumption yesterday by making it clear they had voted for the Highland club at the SPL board meeting.
With Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell and Kilmarnock all having previously declared their backing for Inverness, it means the five clubs who now appear to have denied them access to the top flight of Scottish football for the first time in their remarkable ten-year history were Partick Thistle, Dundee United, Dundee, Livingston and Dunfermline.
This, of course, assumes none of those who have indicated they voted for Inverness in the secret ballot are being disingenuous. The sorry farce developed into a whodunnit? of West End stage proportions yesterday with off-the-record claims and counter-claims from the various parties involved.
Shameful!

Second chance for Inverness (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/3774831.stm)
Shouldn't have ever got to this, hopefully they might get up yet.

It has to be said that one of the reasons Partick finished bottom was that they had to sell some land below market value and take out a large loan so they could upgrade there Stadium to SPL standards (10000 seater Stadium), this left no money to spend on the team. Partick are therefore not going to be to pleased to find out that the rules for Promotion have suddenly changed (Ground shareing, 6000 seater Stadium).
